Twenty-Nine
“Guys, he’s very unhappy.” Bryant wasn’t sure what the problem was. Lars had been so happy, really, for so long, but as he continued to grow, he was getting a little snappish.
Lachlan frowned and handed one of the babies a sippy cup. They had decided to do the alpha Saturdays at Lachlan’s house because the man had set up an amazing playground for the children, and it was the easiest thing ever to go there. They could all sit together and trust that the children were basically safe. “He is going to the midwife, right?”
“Yeah, she says everything is fine.”
“Then I wouldn’t worry about it.” Logan shrugged. “Can you imagine how uncomfortable it has to be? That baby is getting big, his time is close, and I imagine it’s very, very uncomfortable. Dakota always said the very worst part of it was that he had to pee every five minutes, all night long, so he never felt like he got any sleep. And then he was worried because he knew that he wasn’t going to be able to get any sleep once the babies were born; it just stressed him out.”
“I think that Samuel and I are gonna try for one more.” That fell out of Jake’s mouth like a turd in a punch bowl. “Maybe next year. So that we have them pretty much equal distance apart.”
“I think if I suggested that Dakota have another pregnancy, he would cut my balls off.” Logan sounded deadly serious.
“You do have the perfect complement of children,” Lachlan pointed out. “Seriously.”
They were losing the thread. “So you think I shouldn’t worry?”
“I think you’re going to worry one way or the other, but I don’t think it’s anything serious.” Logan shrugged. “I think this is just… He’s tired, feeling a little heavy and unattractive, and maybe even a little nervous.”
Bea glanced over at him. “He’s making a whole being. That’s hard. Like he is literally creating an entire dragon out of air and his own magic. And yours. This is hard work.”
“Yeah, I see what you’re saying. I try not to think about it too much because it kind of wigs me out.” So much power for one body. It was a little unnerving.
“You know,” Lachlan said. “You might think about coming on to him.”
“What?”
“You know. Make a pass at him, seduce him. A little hanky-panky.”
Logan stared at Lachlan, looking like he was gonna barf. “I don’t wanna think about my brother having hanky or panky. I don’t want to think about my brother having ever had sex his whole life because that’s gross.”
Lachlan stared Logan down. “Well, I don’t want to think about my brother having sex either, but I am trying to think about the health of his omega, and I thought that hormones were supposed to make you all woo-hoo.”
“Do you think I should?”
“Dude, if you don’t, you’re missing out on one of the most amazing situations ever.” Bea looked straight into his eyes. “Listen to me. It’s like heat sex, but you don’t have to worry about getting them pregnant because they’re already pregnant, and they want it, and they want it now. If you have not been tapping that, you’re making a huge mistake.”
“Seriously, did you just use the words tapping that? In reference to my brother?” Logan was more than a little wild-eyed now.
“Logan, seriously, you have to grow up. Lars is a big boy. He’s pregnant. He’s had sex.”
Logan shot daggers at Bea. “Possibly once.”
Bryant chuckled. “I can guarantee you it was more than once.”
“Oh, stop it, stop it, stop it. I can’t hear you, la la la.”
Jake stared at Logan. “You are a weirdo.” Then he turned to stare at Bryant. “And you. He’s right. You are missing out on what is possibly the absolute best part of being pregnant. I didn’t think you were that big of an idiot.”
“All right, all right, I will. I will tap that thing.”
Logan fell back on the couch, groaning, one hand thrown over his eyes. “It burns. It burns.”
“Damn, have you always been this much of a drama queen?” Bryant shook his head, chuckles bubbling out of him.
“Rumor has it that he used to be way worse.”
Bea snorted. “He’s just in that big golden daddy sort of phase of his life, you know? Trying to pretend that both sets of twins sort of popped out of the ether, and that he’s never pegged that thing.”
