“Seriously?” His head cocked to the side and his eyebrow rose.
“Seriously.”
“I couldn’t imagine having seven siblings. I think I would have gone crazy or something. How did your parents do it?”
“What?” I shrieked. Tyler waved off his words frantically.
“No. No. I mean, how did they handle raising that many girls?”
“Oh,” I let out a chuckle. “Well, my dad died when we were little so my mom did it all on her own.”
“Oh,” he whispered. “I’m sorry. That was insensitive of me to assume that--”
I held up my hand and he stopped talking.
“Relax, Mr. Benedict. It was an innocent mistake.”
“Ugh. Are you seriously not going to call meTyler?” he grumped, making me laugh.
“It’s not--”
“Yeah. Yeah. It’s not professional,” he interrupted, mimicking my words from earlier.
Damn this man. He even had a great sense of humor. I was such a sucker for personality.
“What are you thinking about?” he asked, gaining my attention.
“Hmm?”
“You had this look on your face. I was just curious what was going through that pretty little mind of yours.”
“Are you always this nice to the maids?” I blurted like an idiot. My hand clapped over my mouth, muffling my groan. Tyler’s head dipped back and a heavenly laugh escaped him.
Minutes seemed to pass by with him laughing what sounded whole-heartedly.
“On that note, I’m leaving,” I said, reaching for the door. My body froze when his warm hand grabbed mine.
“Not so fast,” he replied, turning me around to face him. He looked down at me and smiled. “I can’t have you leaving here and telling everyone how Tyler Benedict is a slob.”
“I wouldn’t do something like that,” I rolled my eyes then looked down at our hands.
“Well, I don’t know much about you so I can’t confirm that you’re telling the truth.”
My eyes darted up to his face.
“I’m not one to spread rumors, Mr. Benedict.”
“You’re killing me here, Melinda,” he groaned. “Is it that hard to call me by my first name?”
“I don’t know. Is it really that hard to let me leave?” I smirked, making him grin.
“Touche’.”
ChapterFive
We stood in silence, staring at one another. His intense, seductive look made so many emotions rush through me. It felt like a million butterflies were fluttering in the pit of my stomach. My heart pounded like a drum. And my knees were on the verge of giving out because they suddenly seemed to be made out ofJello. Not to mention the stupid-ass smile that was plastered on my face. The entire moment was like something out of a cheesy novel or movie.
I always swore that women in the books and the movies were gullible. That there was no way I’d ever be like one of those women.Never would I fall for a man so easily,I’d tell myself whenever I came across a hopeless romantic woman.
