“Piss off,” she shouted back at me with her eyes still on the sidewalk ahead of her.

“I just want to explain!”

She held up her hand and gave me the bird, making me chuckle. I ran around her and stopped a few feet from her. She stopped walking and huffed.

“What? What do you want, Mister Hanson!” she poked me in the chest. Her eyes fell down to her finger which was still touching my chest. “Fuck, you’re buff,” she whispered.

I contained my grin because I was pretty sure she didn’t think I heard her say it and I didn’t want to piss her off anymore than I already had.

“I wasn’t trying to offend you,” I stated, continuing my plea. “I just wasn’t aware that he had put his hands on you.”

She raised her gaze to mine.

“It was a slap on the ass. Wasn’t the end of the world, but definitely wasn’t welcomed, especiallyafterhe commented on my ass several times and belittled me in front of a shit ton of your rich circle of friends,” she glared.

If Gage had been there, I would have punched him in the face then drug his ass to the police station. Grabbing women and insulting them was not okay. We were raised better than that. If our mother was to hear about this, she’d have his head on a stake.

“Why in the hell did they arrest you?” I groaned. “His ass should be back there.”

I pointed over my shoulder in the direction of the police station. The woman seemed shocked by my words.

“What do you mean?” she questioned quietly.

“He assaulted you. He should have gone to jail… not you.”

“Yeah, well, the paramedics had to take him to the hospital so I don’t know what to tell you.”

“What? He’s in the hospital?” I burst into laughter, earning me a look that would make Satan cry.

“Glad you find this funny.”

“It’s not that,” I stopped laughing. “I just never thought he’d get beat up by a girl.”

Wrong choice of words, dumbass, I scolded myself, when her eyes narrowed in on me.

“I’m going to ask you this nicely, Mister Hanson–”

“Zane,” I corrected her with a smile.

“Look,Mister Hanson,” she emphasized with a glare, “get the hell out of my way because I have no problems going back to jail and spending time with Miss Gloria and Miss Sarah!”

With that, she walked around me and hurried down the sidewalk.

I had no idea who Miss Gloria or Miss Sarah was, but I had a feeling they were just as feisty as her. I had no desire of learning who they were. Right now, it was Miss Delaney, who I wanted to get to know more about.
