Page 31 of Christmas with Hope

Carefully, the nurse handed me our daughter. Once the baby was settled on my chest, the nurse smiled and walked off.

I looked down to see the most beautiful little girl on the planet. She was perfect. Her eyes were dark blue. She had a head full of dark hair.

“She’s perfect,” I smiled, looking down at our daughter.

“Just like her mother,” Colton kissed the side of my head and then the baby’s forehead.

“What is this little gem’s name?” a nurse asked, holding a clipboard. Colton and I looked at each other and smiled.

“Faith Marie Preston,” we said in unison, looking at the nurse.

“Beautiful name,” she smiled and jotted down something on a piece of paper.

Colton and my attention went back to Faith, who had her eyes closed. She looked so peaceful. Not a care in the world and two parents who would do anything for her. In this lifetime and the next.

“Best Christmas present ever,” Colton stroked Faith’s tiny cheek.

“I agree.” My heart was full. I had the husband of my dreams and the perfect little girl. What more could I ask for?

Colton chuckled, breaking my train of thought.

“What are you chuckling about?” I asked, smiling.

“Just thinking about our Christmases together.”

“What about them?”

“The first year I had Christmas with Hope. This year, I get to have Christmas with Hope and Faith.”

“Hope and Faith,” I repeated with a chuckle.

“Maybe next year, I can have Christmas with Hope, Faith, and… maybe a Joy or a Grace?”

“No.” My glare was going to burn a hole through him.

“Easy, sweetheart.” He held up his hands and laughed.

“You are getting snipped A.S.A.P,” I informed him in a firm tone.

“We can talk about that later, beautiful. For now, Let’s just enjoy our perfect present.”

I smiled then looked down at the tiny bundle of joy. “Merry Christmas, Faith.”

“And many more Christmases to come.”
