“I don’t have one.”

The hell he didn’t. She stood her ground. She’d worked too damn hard last night on the upstairs to put up with this. “I don’t believe you.” She motioned with her eyes for him to say something.

“You know what my problem is, Rach?”

“No, but why don’t you tell me.” She jutted her chin, not breaking eye contact.

“Women.”

“That’s your problem.”

“Yes.”

“And is this the reason you smell like a brewery?”

He clamped his lips and looked away.

Of course, he’d shut up now. During the course of their brief time together, he rarely shared with her how he was feeling. It was part of the reason she’d called things off last winter when she did.

She thought she’d wanted someone who wore his heart on his sleeve, and not the arrogant closed off man now standing in front of her.

Something had happened to cause him to get inebriated.

Or was it someone?Suspicion crept up her neck, and she gave it a good scratch. “Did you and Amber have a fight?” she asked.

His gaze moved to meet hers. “I’m not seeing Amber again.”

“I’m sorry.”

“Me, too.” He let out a deep sigh. “I really want to date her.”

Her heart twisted over his admission. Obviously, she’d misread everything between them this morning. “Then date her.”

“I think I will.”

“Great, problem solved,” she said flatly. There would be no telling Will how she really felt about him—tonight or ever.

Abby stepped out the door, interrupting their conversation, or whatever it was they were having. “Hey, I’m sorry, but Aunt Sheila’s pretty tired.” She rested her hand on her stomach. “And this little turkey inside is pressing on my bladder. Do you think we could have Emma open the trunk?”

“Yes, of course.” Rachel stepped in the doorway.

Will followed her in. “Ladies, forgive my attire. You all are looking beautiful tonight.” He walked over and gave Sheila a kiss on her cheek followed by hugging Emma.

Rachel watched in disbelief. Someone seemed to shake off his problem.

“I’m sorry to hear about the Belle Bridal Boutique,” Emma said.

“Thank you, but this is the second-best thing.” He glanced behind him. “Rachel came through big time. I’m incredibly grateful.”

“Happy to help.”Did he really mean that?He could start showing some gratitude for her saving his hide.

And she was still driving his butt home.

She motioned for all of them to follow her into the second room, turning on the lights along her way.

“Hello, friend.” Abby walked over to the trunk and gave it a good pat. “Okay, get to it, Emma.”

Emma bent down, placed her hand on the handle, and closed her eyes, making no motion to pull it up.
