Satisfied by my name on his lips and the incredible orgasm this man has just given me, I slip out from under his arms. Adjusting my skirt back into place, I walk to the door.
Ryan follows me; he grabs my wrist, turning me toward him and his mouth connects with mine in a kiss that is far too soft and sweet. Something about it seems almost caring and it makes me gasp. I nearly lose it, but I pull it together quickly.
I run my lips along his neck until I reach his ear, whispering, “Thanks for that. It was amazing, but I hope I don’t get pregnant. You just came inside me.”
I walk out of the room leaving Ryan stunned and speechless.
Chapter One
Present Day – Boston
Ryan
“Shit,” I grunt out, collapsing back on my bed after coming all over my hand. “God, Erin,” I say out loud, the empty room swallowing my words.
I can’t believe I’m still thinking about this woman. I haven’t seen her since I went up to visit Beck and Kelsey over Thanksgiving last week. Nothing had changed between us. We still fought like crazy and fucked like crazy. Exactly as we’d been doing since I followed her into the rest room in Beck’s pub all those months ago. This woman is probably the single most infuriating woman on the planet, but no matter how nuts she drives me, I just can’t stay away from her.
And this morning, I’ve just jacked off while thinking about her…again.
“Jesus christ, Ryan, get a fucking grip,” I say, dragging myself out of bed and into the shower. After I wash and shave, I get out and dry off before pulling on a clean white shirt and black suit, ready for work. As I’m standing in the kitchen drinking a cup of coffee, leaning against the counter, my cell phone rings. Glancing at it, I smile when I see Kelsey’s name light up the screen.
“Hey, how’s my future wife doing? Still hanging around with that dickhead?” I ask as I answer it.
Kelsey laughs down the phone. “Sticking with him I’m afraid. He makes it worth my while.”
“You bet your ass I do,” I hear Beck say in the background.
I can’t help but laugh. I’m glad these two sorted their shit out after all the years they’d spent apart. I’d never met Kelsey until she went and got herself a stalker, forcing Beck to head back to the town he grew up in and help his brother catch him. It also forced Beck to acknowledge that he really did love this woman and couldn’t, like he’d been bullshitting both himself and the rest of the world, in fact live without her.
“So, anyway,” Kelsey says, “the reason I’m calling is to let you know the boy is turning the big three-zero this weekend and I thought we’d have a party to celebrate. I wanted to know if you could come up?”
I glance at my watch, knowing I need to get moving. “This Saturday?” I ask, throwing back the rest of my coffee as I pick up my keys and head for the door.
“Yep, Saturday. Although I’m sure Erin would appreciate it if you came up Friday after work,” Kelsey adds, and I can tell she’s smiling.
“Of course she would,” I say, laughing as I close the door behind me. “She loves me and my big co…”
“Yep, okay, TMI on the detail, Ryan,” Kelsey says, cutting me off.
I smile, knowing she’s cool with my dirty talk. And besides, I’ve heard her and Erin talk and they are far worse. Then again, there’s just something about two women discussing sex when they don’t know you’re listening, or even when they do, that’s both scary and a huge turn-on.
“You love it,” I say, unlocking my SUV and sliding in behind the wheel. I hit the ignition and my cell switches over to hands-free.
“Whatever, mister,” she says, laughing. “Now are you coming up, or what?”
“Sure thing,” I tell her. “I wouldn’t miss any chance to witness Beck hit his thirties and start his mid-life crisis.”
Kelsey laughs again. “Great, we’ll see you Friday then. Spare room is all yours, even though I’m sure it won’t get used…as usual.”
“Whatever. Laters, babe,” I say, laughing as I hang up on her.
Work is the usual bullshit of meetings, interviewing witnesses, meetings, getting called out to a case, and meetings. I love my job, but it’s exhausting and ever since Beck decided to stay in Rockport, it’s a lot less fun too.
They promoted me after he left, and I now head up our team, taking over what he used to do. Although the pay raise and extra responsibility is great, it also comes with a shitload more administrative stuff, all of which completely sucks. This isn’t what I signed up for.
I glance at my watch and see it’s after six. Shuffling the notes from the latest case we’re working on, a double homicide that has mob written all over it, into my in-tray, I decide to call it a day. I head outside and into Finnigan’s across the road from the station. This used to be a regular stop for Beck and me. At least twice a week, we’d find ourselves in here, unwinding after a long day and more often than not, finding someone to take home and unwind with. Of course now I’m flying solo on that front, even though half of my team is already in here, probably on their second pints.
“Hey, sir,” the newest addition calls out as I walk through the door.
