When I showed up at the club, I was fifteen minutes early. I set in the car about five more minutes before walking in just to make sure I was really ready. It had been a long time since I was undercover as Stacey Walsh, second in command of the biggest gun ring in Nevada.

Finally, I got out and walked into the club. When I opened the door I saw Johnnie B seating at a table on the right in the VIP section with two glasses and a bottle of wine.

I really hope he understands that this is business and not a date.

I walked up to the table and he stands up and comes to take my chair out from under the table and said, “Hello Stacey. I am glad you could make it. I had the chef cook us some steaks, baked potatoes and salad. I hope you haven’t had lunch yet.”

“I haven’t. Thank you for thinking ahead,” I replied as the bartender brought out our salads.

“Well, let’s eat and we can discuss the business and what your plans are. I am hoping that you decide to come work for us. We could use your experience and expertise in the gun market,” he said.

After talking and eating he tells me that he will talk to Torello about where I would fit best in the organization and give me a call in a few days.

I leave the meeting and stops by the grocery store to pick up food to make chicken fettuccine Alfredo for dinner with Brandon.

At 1700 I took a shower and got ready for dinner. Then I started cooking the chicken and noodles, made my homemade Alfredo sauce. Last, I put the garlic bread in the oven, lit some candles and put on some music.

At 1900 sharp, Brandon knocks on the door.

“Wow, it smells amazing in her,” he said as he handed me a bouquet of flowers and kissed my cheek. “I am glad you are okay. You know I have been a little worried about you. Johnnie B seems like a real snake when it comes to women.”

“Oh he definitely is. He had a whole meal prepared by his chef. I didn’t complain, I just ate and stayed on topic,” I said.

“I am glad you handled yourself professionally,” he replied.

He put the wine on the table as I got a vase for the flowers, and then I set them in the center of the table. I wasn’t sure how to respond to his comment, so I just didn’t respond at all.

We sat down at the table, ate and discussed the meeting. When we were done, he helped me clean up the dishes and grabbed our glasses and the rest of the wine, and we headed to the living room to sit and watch another movie.

We didn’t fall asleep this time. At the end of the movie he went home. There was a part of me that wanted to ask him to stay, but I knew that was a bad idea.

CHAPTERNINE

Brandon

I didn’t want to leave tonight, but I knew it was best. We couldn’t cross the line. We had to stay professional until we brought down this gun ring. But I have to say that my feelings for her are growing every day. I never expected this. I know in my line of work a relationship is harder than normal to sustain. Too many women don’t understand the long hours, the undercover work and the danger. But Amelia understands it all. She lives it like I do and that is a complete turn on. I go off to bed dreaming about her.

It is Tuesday morning, and we are not seeing each other today. I am not happy about it and that throws me. I really want to see her every day. I hung out around the apartment most of the day except for when I had to go pick up the shipment from my contact. Then I came back and got myself mentally ready for the drop tomorrow.

Amelia and I text just to say what time I was picking her up to head to the drop.

I went to bed again thinking about her, missing her and wanting to see her.

Wednesday morning I woke up and made a pot of coffee. I am not really a breakfast person, but have to have my coffee in the mornings.

I headed over to Amelia’s at 1700 to make sure we were on point with the drop at 1830.

When I get there she opened the door looking a little flustered.

“Are you okay,” I asked immediately.

“Yes. I just got off the phone with Johnnie B. They moved me up the chain already to the local handler. Meaning I will be your new handler as of your next drop,” she said.

“That’s good news for you! That puts you in a good position to move up and finally meet Torello since no one knows what he looks like. This is going to be put us on top for a change,” I tell her.

“You mean it doesn’t bother you that after you have been undercover all this time, that I come on board and I immediately become a higher ranking person than you?” she asked.

“Of course not. Come on, we knew when you came on board that you would be higher than me because of who Stacey was in the Romero organization. That’s why it was a good decision to bring you on. I can’t be mad about that. The end result is that we get this guy and bring the whole organization tumbling down,” I told her.
