Kysre scoffed, but it was Kyree who crouched down to meet him eye to eye.

"My sister was in the car with River. By the grace of God, she was able to walk away with a few scratches. The same can't be said for River, so we're trying to figure out what happened, which is what you should've been doing since you had her car towed here. Someone fucked with River's steering wheel. That's why she crashed. As far as I'm concerned, you got what you deserved. Just be happy it wasn't death." Kyree shrugged, then stood and walked over to Kysre. "For what it's worth, Crown, I don't think it was him."

Ignoring Kyree's opinion, I went and grabbed Rook from the ground. "Did you fuck with Four's car?"

"No," he trembled.

"Do you know who did?"

"N... no... no."

"Ight. Get to a doctor and get stitched up." I shoved him away, then turned toward Kysre and Kyree. "Exchange numbers with Rize. I'll be in touch."

"Okay," they agreed.

"Rize, take 'em home."

"I got you."

Dapping him up, I jogged across the street and hopped in my car.

Speeding off, I felt like I was about to go insane. Shit was coming at me from all angles. Before I could handle the shit in Ember Hills, I had to make sure Four was good. Doing that seemed damn near impossible. Even with his life on the line, Rook wasn't willing to betray Four's trust. I couldn't even say Four because that nigga was protecting River. Maybe that's where I fucked up. I didn't give a fuck about River because I was hooked on Four. She created this persona that was easy to fall in love with, and a nigga fell. Now shit was getting real, and Fourwas pushing River to the forefront. River came with boundaries, secrets, and insecurities that her ass wasn't gon' let me get to without force. Bulldozing my way to answers wasn't how I wanted to play shit. I wanted to give her time to see I wasn't on fuck shit and anything I said to her I was willing to stand on. That shit was gonna take time we no longer had. Someone was coming at River. What happened with her car was a message, one I heard loud and clear.

Chapter 17

River Ashland

"What do you think our kid will look like?" Staring at Sincere with a blank expression, I waited for him to laugh or at least say he was joking. "You don't wanna have my baby. Riv?"

Feeling my cheeks start to hike, I looked away.

"Nah, look at me, River." With his fingers on my chin, he guided my face back to his. "Do you wanna have my baby?" His voice was firmer when he asked this time.

"It never crossed my mind, if I'm being honest."

I thought that was a polite way of saying no, but it was clear from how close his brows bunched together that he didn't see it that way.

"Fuck you mean you never thought about it? Your ass been thinking about forever, tho'," he scoffed, sliding my legs from his lap.

"Oh, so I can't touch you now?" I smacked.

"Don't do that shit," he warned, glaring at me.

"Don't do what, Sincere?"

"Switch shit up like I did some shit to you."

"All I did was answer your question, and because you didn't like what I had to say, you pushed my legs off you."

"Fuck it." He shrugged and got up from the couch. "What you won't do, another bitch will."

"Nigga, what?" I barked, shooting up.

"You ain't the only bitch capable of having my baby."

"Say word, Sincere."

Waving me off, he slipped his sneakers on that were by the front door. I quickly moved in front of the door because this nigga wasn't leaving after saying some shit like that to me.
