“She was in the front seat with buddy when he ran you off the road. I went after him, and she was there. She had the nigga’sback.” I could tell he was taken all the way aback by this. His sister, his blood, pulled the trigger on him.
I wrapped my arm around him, pulling him as close to me as possible. “That makes two of us. I heard Ree and my grandmother fussing. Fiona was in that car, too. Neither one of our sisters are shit.” I had to have some sort of dark humor in this moment.
He peered down at me, attempting to stay serious, but that smirk I had grown to love prevailed.
“Where is she now?” I had to ask.
“Hospital. Malik shot her. Bitch will live.” He seemed to hate that last part. That fast it was able to put him into a deep thought.
I nodded, before allowing my healthy hand to brush his face. “Hey, we’re good. You’ll figure this out. We both will.”
He blinked a few times, before focusing on me. “Got to.”
I was about to speak, but a knock at the door interrupted the beginning of my statement. I glanced up, and locked eyes with two casually dressed beings at the door. They were detectives, that much was noticeable before they flashed their badges. Then they introduced themselves, before stepping into the room.
Of course they wanted to know if I had seen anything before the accident. I didn’t get to respond, because Zero was already handing them their ass and telling them to do their fucking job instead of badgering me. He was irritated with their presence, that much was obvious. They left moments later with no more to say as the nurse pushed the sonagram machine into the room.
While the nurse set up the machine, Doctor Avery went over everything about my condition as well as the risks to the babies with us. I hated hearing it, but the fact that we were still here. Seconds later the sound of their heartbeats filled the room with enough ferocity to bring tears to my eyes and reassurance to my heart.
We spent the remainder of the night/morning talking. No heavy conversations or anything like that, but the type of conversation you had with a person you felt like you’d been away from too long.
I was dischargedfrom the hospital days after I woke up and restricted to minimal activity. The doctors basically told my ass if I wanted my babies to stay healthy, I needed to be easy and light. That was going to be the hard part because I was used to moving around, used to being busy. Zero and I also agreed that I’d stay at his house considering the fact that it was all one floor compared to all the levels of mine. That was an annoyance in itself because I didn’t have much at his house, but he said he’d take care of it. Baby daddy with the hole in his side said he’d handle it, and I believed him. I believed him when he said it the day we found out we were having twins and I believed him now.
“This is a nice place you have here, Zero,” my mother complimented for the millionth time. Did I mention she was also here getting on my damn nerves? I get she was worried, but being a doctor as well didn’t she realize that her ass was annoying too?
He nodded. “Thank you ma’a—Mama T.” She didn’t play that ma’am shit. Back at the hospital she told him to call her mama, and he nodded. That didn’t stop him from slipping up because after all he was raised right.
He handed me my lemon icy, before taking a seat next to me on the sofa. Within seconds, it was just he and I while she went to the room he allotted to her for the duration of her stay. Let her tell it she wouldn’t be here long, but per my grandmother, shetook a leave of absence from work. Plus she had three suitcases. At this point, her old ass was moving in.
“Stop looking like that before one of my sons come out with that face.”
I turned and looked at him, before licking my icy. “What face, Zero?”
“The one where your lips go in opposite directions, and you look crazy as fuck for no reason. How do you feel?”
“On a scale of one to ten my leg is a seven, but I can suffer through it. I don’t want to take any pills or sleep anymore.” I glared at the cast.
He nodded. “Understood. Yo’ arm?”
It was now in a softer cast just to keep it away from the elements from the surgery. “It’s fine, but it itches.”
He nodded his head again. “Means it’s healing.”
“How do you feel?” My eyes went to his side before going back to his eyes.
“I’m straight.”
“Don’t tell me that and you wince every time you move. You’re in pain. Come here.” I held my arms out for him like he was a child.
He chuckled. “I ain’t no fucking child, Empress.”
“I didn’t say you were. I just want you close. You know skin to skin, baby daddy.” I smirked.
“See neither one of us is in the position to be on some skin-to-skin shit. Skin to skin and I’ma wanna fuck to fuck.”
I cracked up laughing. “Can’t you for once think about anything other than that?”
“I am.” He finally made his way up to me and within seconds he was lying between my legs.
