“Now that’s out of the way, you got something you wanna tell me, lil’ girl?” When we reached the kitchen she went toward the stove and I stood in the doorway for a moment.

I blinked a few times just looking at her. “Tell you what, Grams?” I looked toward the front, before taking a seat. She didn’t want any of us to touch her pots, so she always made the plates.

“Gal, you know what I’m talking about. My dreams are filled with fish, and you got this glow about you that lights up the damn room. Tell me foe’ I pop yo’ ass.” She now held out a wooden spoon and the meanest expression she could muster.

I was prepared to go toe to toe with her, but it wasn’t a secret. Hell, I had told Zero after the first appointment I’d tell my family now this was me telling my grams. “Fine. I’m pregnant.”

“You’re what?” Irish’s tone filled the room as he walked through the back door with Ree in tow. She had a set of eyes so narrow that I was sure she was about to stab me with them.

I didn’t intend on telling them all like this, but oh well. Telling them now meant I didn’t have to repeat myself in the future. This also meant I needed to be taking a flight to Scarsdale to see my mother and tell her myself before my father could. Well shit first I had to tell him since he wasn’t up here for my announcement.

“She said she was pregnant, but I know for a fact she’s just fuck—messing around. Right, you’re just playing.” Ree peered at me.

“I wish I was, but we had an appointment today and yes, I am. Like really pregnant.” I pulled the sonagram from my bag and sat it on the table.

Irish was the first to snatch it up. He examined it for a moment, before he spoke. “Yo, why it say baby A and B?”

“Because it’s twins idiot.”

“Twins what?” My father’s voice found its way into the kitchen. As always, his eyes were on me, and he was about to attempt to lecture me.

“My baby is giving me babies.” My grandmother gave a toothy grin before sitting the biggest plate I’d ever seen in my life down in front of me. Then if that weren’t enough, she sat a glass down with some ice before pouring me some lemonade. “Make sure you feed my babies and tell Zero I need to be speaking to him.”

“What baby? Not this one. Not Emp—” Irish handed my father the sonagram, and his sentence halted.

“So, I’m gonna be an auntie and you didn’t tell me?” Ree was ready to fight my ass.

“I planned on telling you later. This was indeed no secret and plus that’s your copy, sister.”

She smiled. “Good save ho, now whose gonna save you from him?” Her eyes were now rested on our father who looked like I had just shattered his world. I mean I was his baby girl, but I was also a grown woman.

“What’s wrong, Pops? You realize Empress ain’t a virgin no more?” Irish had to say something off the wall.

“Might as well. It’s just hitting me that my baby ain’t a baby no more. Here I was coming in here to lecture you about tasing your sister and this is why.”

“Yo, you used the taser?” Irish was cracking up laughing. “Yeah, you keep tasing bitches, I can’t have you out here getting down with bitches in such a state.”

I cackled. “A state?”

“Yeah, a state. You’re about to be on big back time. I ain’t go time to be out here decking bitches because they think it’s cool to fuck with mine.”

“Language, Irish.”

Chapter 9

Heaven

REE - WEEKS LATER

Istared at my brother in disbelief. He had just told me that not only had our sister been put out of her house for not paying rent, but her husband had left her and the kids. That’s why her and her kids had been staying with my grandmother. That was some sick shit, because technically the kids had been the only ones staying because Fiona was never there. Hell she couldn’t be there. Grams had actually told her that she was no longer welcomed in her house.

“Bitch is off her rocker. There is no possible way she didn’t think anybody would find out about this.” I shook my head just as the door opened in the distance.

When I turned around Empress was walking in holding what looked like pizza from Lous and a bag of what I already knew to be hot wings. This bitch was for sure gonna deep dish herself to death.

“Yo, you eat that shit too much. Too fucking much,” Irish lectured.

“Pre and during pregnancy,” I added to his statement.
