“Do twins run in your family?” I found myself asking when nothing else would come to my mind.
“Not that I know of. You worried?” he looked away from the road for a few seconds at me.
“You’re not? You literally froze up in the doctor’s office.”
“You’re right I did, but because that shit caught a nigga off guard. But my belief that we got this still hasn’t wavered. Yeah, we got the two for one deal, but that don’t change shit. I got you, you got me, and they got us.”
“Just like Mr. Super Sperm to be in here giving glorious pep talks.”
He laughed. “But you’re hearing me, right?”
“Loud and clear.”
“Good.” He maneuvered into the parking lot of the mall seconds later. Once he parked, he looked over at me and spoke sincerely. “I know you hear me, but I need you to keep my words close because I mean all that I said. It’s us and them.”
Biting into my bottom lip, I nodded my head, then he leaned forward and mashed his lips against mine.
“Bet.”
We entered the mall a few minutes later hand and hand. I was only here for a purse that I’d seen online. I was just doing a pickup, while he was going to get fresh sweats. His fine ass lived in joggers. After taking care of our initial plans we walked the mall for a while longer before ultimately deciding to get lunchin the food court. We both wanted the same greasy ass cheese steaks, so once we ordered he ran to the washroom while I waited on the food.
Out of instinct I looked around the food court taking in my surroundings. What I didn’t expect was to lock eyes with my sister, peeping the scene of her, Amira and Benson sitting in a booth a few feet from me. I swear I didn’t know they all kicked it, but I guess this was why she kept leaving her kids with Grandma. Bitch thought she had a second wind, disregarding motherhood. Instead of speaking I attempted to focus my attention on the man making mine and Zero’s food.
“Damn, you were really gonna act like you didn’t see me. It’s that bad sister?” Fiona had made her way to where I was standing. This is what I got for coming to the most visited mall in the city.
“What do you want, Fiona?”
“Nothing. Just to say hey to my sister since she wasn’t gonna speak to me.”
I nodded, attempting to keep the words that I really wanted to say to her at bay. I failed miserably, because immediately I was speaking again instead of biting my tongue. “You sure are out here enjoying yourself while Big Mama got your kids.”
She slapped her hands on her hips, then sucked her teeth. “So, my grandma ain’t said nothing. Who are yo?—”
“C’mon shorty I’m tryna get a nut off before I go home.” Benson walked over and slapped my sister’s ass. I could feel his eyes on me while mine stayed glued to my sister. Was this his attempt to get me to show him some attention?Fail.
“Hey to you too, Empress,” Amia spoke begrudgingly as she took what I assumed was their tray to the garbage.
I had no intention of speaking to her at all, and I didn’t. She was Zero’s problem and to keep from putting my hands on her, I wouldn’t say anything to her.
Benson didn’t stay behind my sister for long, because he stepped in front of her almost like he was about to do something to me because I hadn’t acknowledged him. “Damn yeen speaking, Em? You know I coul?—”
“Get fucked up if you don’t create some fucking space near mine.” Zero’s voice behind me caused my sister and Benson to back up.
“I was just tal?—”
“Nah, you was just about to catch a bullet in here.” Seconds later Zero’s arm was around my shoulder. “Go find something safe to do because, fucking around speaking to this one isn’t. It’s right up there with falling off a bridge or worse playing with guns.”
“Fuck her,” my sister muttered to Benson, but it was loud enough for me to hear.
Benson backed away with his hands up, while my sister walked away. There was something different in his eyes, something evil but I chose to ignore it for now.
The worker called his name, prompting me to step forward and get our food. I reached for it, but before I could grab it, he had it in his hand. “I got it mama. Grab the napkins and shit.”
We left the circus right where they stood and went to eat. Whatever they had going on had nothing to do with me nor him, however I would be telling my siblings that I saw Fiona here. Bitch was out here chasing dick instead of being a mama.
“Your sister was with them. I think she ducked off when she saw you.”
He nodded. “I know. Streets say she’s selling pussy.”
