It’s a pretty packed house with all twenty of my teammates and their plus-ones. It feels like a lot.

But it’s easier when I can just focus on her.

Jules glances up. Searches the room. When she catches my eyes, she stops.

That forces a smirk on my face, knowing it was me she was searching for.

A second later, I see her turn to say something to the group. Then she comes over to me.

She motions her head towards the door. “Want to get some air?”

“Sure,” I nod.

Once our coats and beanies are on, we start down the street.

“What’s up?” I ask her.

She spins on her heel, staring up at the stars. “Hmm?”

“Why’d you want to come outside?”

“I didn’t,” Jules says. “But you needed to.”

I flatten my lips. “How did you know?”

“You get overwhelmed.” When I just stare at her, she adds, “You make it easy for me to read you.”

“I can’t exactly say the same about you.”

She meets my eyes, then looks away. Keeps walking. “I know.”

I follow after her. “Tell me something,” I say.

“About what?”

“You. Anything about you.”

Jules pushes her hair out of her face. My gaze shifts, that bracelet she wears with one half of a Yin-Yang charm catching the light from the street lamp above.

I reach for her wrist. Bring it closer to me. “Who has the other half?” I ask. Brush my thumb across her soft skin under the bracelet.

She smiles. Shakes her head. “Nobody.”

I tilt my head at her.

“Well, actually,” she says, “I don’t know. I found it on the beach a few years ago.” She takes her wrist back. Fiddles with the charm. “I kind of like that though.”

“What do you mean?”

“Well, you know, because Yin-Yang’s all about being balanced. Perfect harmony. And that’s not really me. I don’t think it ever will be.”

“And what are you, Jules?”

She purses her lips. Looks up at me. “Honestly, I think I’m the chaos. The thing that brings it all down.”

My brows pull together. “That’s how you see yourself?”

She shrugs.
