Don’t ask me what kind, what color. Any dress.

They just look so goddamn pretty in them.

But no one compares to Jules.

It’s summer, but her skin is as fair as ever.

She looks thinner. Wasn’t sure that was possible. Her legs go on for miles.

Her hazel eyes are different today. Dimmer, somehow. Sometimes they get like that. There are green days, and there are brown days. And then there’s days like now, where they’re murky. Mysterious. I think these days fit her most.

She looks at me now over the top of her whiskey glass with those mysterious eyes.

Sutty’s date is saying something to her. And Sutty’s saying something to me.

But I’m not sure either of us is listening.

It’s just us. It always feels like it’s just us. No matter how many people are in the room. Whether it’s few handfuls of loners at Bar None like now or an arena full of hockey fans at one of my games.

Just us.

Pour Some Sugar On Meby Def Leppard starts playing. And I’m already looking at Jules. Her brows raise, and I know what’s about to happen before it even does.

She slams her glass down on the table.

“Uh oh,” Rhett chuckles sarcastically.

Jules grins, grabbing Sutty’s date’s hand.

I already forgot her name.

And then Jules holds a hand out to me. But it’s just to be nice. She knows my answer.

I shake my head. Nod for her to go ahead. Give her a smirk as she winks at me.

Jules leads the other girl over to the bar. Makes quick work of climbing up on top of it.

She starts dancing. Throws her head back. Shouts the lyrics. Shakes her hips. Points right at me. Even though every set of eyes in the room is on her. Gives it the performance of her lifetime.

Sutty and I watch the two of them.

Well, I just watch Jules.

Because why would I ever look anywhere else?

I run a hand along the stubble at my chin as I grin at her. I’ve started growing a beard. Jules doesn’t like it.

I might shave it.

I feel a tap on my shoulder and lean in towards Rhett. He starts to tell me something about next season. And it all happens so fast.

I hear a shriek.

Nearly snap my neck looking forward.

Some piece of shit is feeling up Jules. He’s looking up at her with a handful of her ass. She tries to shove him off, but he’s persistent. He slurs something at her I can’t hear.

Sutty and I move like lightning.
