“Baby, it’s just my family. Jeans and a shirt are fine.”

“I am not dressing in everyday clothes to meet your parents for the first time!” She points her toothbrush at me, foam around the corners of her mouth.I find it weirdly sexy.

“You wear dresses and skirts every day of the week. Not jeans.” I lift a brow, looking down at her.

“Why do you always have to be a smartass?”

I laugh at the angry kitten look she’s throwing me. “Because you love my smartass,” I say proudly.Wrong move.

She flings the end of her toothbrush at me, projecting foamy toothpaste on my face and chest. I’m momentarily stunned, mouth hanging open. But then she starts to giggle with her mouth closed, spitting paste all over as she puts her hand up to try and stop the sputter from happening.

“Oh, you are going to pay for that!” I throw my toothbrush in the sink and grab hold of her face.

She shrieks as I bring my foamy mouth down and rub it all over her skin. Oncewe’re both covered in toothpaste and laughing, I bring her lips to mine and devour her. Most people might think it’s nasty given we haven’t rinsed our mouths out, but I couldn’t care less.I want her in every way I can have her.

After having thoroughly explored each other, we head into the shower to clean up. What should have been a thirty-minute shower, turned into a two-hour one, with multiple orgasms. The water had long turned ice cold by the time we made it out.

We then get dressed quickly and run downstairs to the kitchen, both starving and in need of actual food rather than the feasting we’ve been doing on each other.

As I park my car outside my parents’ townhouse, I notice Cecilia fidgeting with the hem of the dress she borrowed from Emma. It’s a baggy brown sweater dress with a turtleneck, ending a few inches over her knees, just above where her thigh-high black heeled boots end. It’s effortlessly sexy, yet still pretty casual.

Her pretty hair is in her natural wavy curls that I love passing my fingers through, and she decided to forgo makeup altogether. She doesn’t even try, and she’s still the most beautiful woman I’ve ever laid eyes on.

“We’re here, baby.” I take her hand in mine to stop her from playing with her dress. She lifts her lost gaze to me before turning to look out the window at my parents’ dwelling. Her eyes become glossy instantly, making worry claw at my skin.

With my free hand, I grab her chin, turning her back to me. “Minnie, what’s wrong?”

“You have people in there, waiting for you. People who are excited they get to see you every Sunday. I don’t have that...” She swallows and lets out a shaky breath. “I don’t have someone calling me every other day to check in or know when I’ll come home to visit. Jesus, Silas, I don’t even have a home.” Tears begin to stream down her cheeks, and my heart breaks for her.

I’m such an idiot, I didn’t think how much being around my family could affect her.

“Fuck, baby.” I unclip her seatbelt and lift her off her seat onto my lap. It’s not a simple maneuver, but I make it happen. A sob leaves her pretty mouth as I cradle her to me. “Shh, it’s okay, Minnie. I got you.”

“I just hate that you’ll never get this, that I’ll never be able to introduce you to them. That they’ll never get to know how amazing you are to me.” The words tumbling out of her are barely audible.

But I hear them, every single one, and I hate it all. I hate that she has to feel this way, I want to take all this pain away from her and make it my own.She needs to know she’s not alone anymore, that she’ll never be alone again.

“I’m sorry it has to be this way, baby. I wish things could be different for you. If there were a way to bring back your parents, I would do it in a heartbeat. But know that you’re not alone, Cecilia. You have me now, and my family. You have Emma, Morgan, and Clay.” I kiss the top of her head.

“You even have the guys, I know you don’t know them well yet, but you will. We’re all a big family, and now they’re your big family, too.” I want to tell her that one day we’ll make a family of our own. But I know she’s not ready for those words, so I hold them in.For now.

“If you aren’t feeling up to this, it’s okay. I’ll let them know something came up, and we can go home.” There’s no way I’m forcing her in there if she isn’t comfortable.

“No, it’s okay. I’m okay. I’m sorry, I didn’t expect this to hit me so hard... just give me a minute to fix myself, and we can go.”

She begins to scoot herself back to her seat, but I stop her, cupping her cheek. “Minnie, youneverneed to apologize to me for how you feel. I want you to tell me these things so that I can make them better.” I kiss her lips, then let her go.

She returns to her seat and pulls down the visor, looking into the mirror, then wipes the underside of her eyes and cheeks before passing her fingers through her hair. When she’s fixed herself as best as possible, which isn’t easy since her eyes are red and her lips are slightly swollen, she offers me a genuine smile.

“Ready,” she says as I stroke her cheek, then open my door and head over to hers.

When we get to the front door, I look at her one more time, making sure she’s still on board. Her lips aren’t as swollen anymore, and the redness in her eyes is slowly fading. She sends me a reassuring smile and squeezes my hand, giving me the answer I need. I turn the knob and open the door.

We’re barely through the door when my brother jumps over the couch, heading straight for us. “Finally! Took you guys some time to get inside.” He winks at me, then looks at my girl. “Damn, my sister’s hot.”For fuck’s sake, I warned him not to call her that. But who was I kidding, of course, he’d still do it.

“Knock it off, Spence!” I growl while Cecilia expels a nervous giggle at his comment.

He takes her into a bear hug and winks again. That fucker, he’s trying to rile me up. It’s working. When he pulls back, still with his hands on her elbows, he offers her a charming smile. “What, I’m only stating the truth. Hi, I’m Spencer. The more attractive and smarter brother.”
