“Oh God! Please stop,” I beg.
“Just one of my many traits,” he says with amusement.
“Okay, that’s enough! Hand me back the phone,” I announce, rising to my knees and extending my hand.
She holds the phone closer to her in one hand while smacking mine away with the other. “Wait! I only have one more question before I go.”
“Shoot.”
“What are your plans withmygirl?” she asks, highlighting the word‘my’as she says it. She places her free hand on her hip as the other holds the phone in the air in front of her, waiting for his response
“Well, I was actually wondering if Cecilia was free tomorrow?” he asks, a bit of nerves showing through.
“She is,” Emma answers for me. I swear they’ve forgotten I’m even here. I kneel back onto my calves and chew my lower lip as I wait to see what he might say.
“Good, then I’ll be picking her up at five.”
“Alright well, my job here is done. Silas, it was nice chatting with you. Cece, food’s ready, but you know... takeallthe time you need,” she says with a wink as she passes me my phone and turns for the door.
“Actually, why don’t you go eat, sweetheart, and we’ll talk later?” he tells me.
“Yeah, okay. I’d like that.” My smile grows as I bite my lip.
“Good.”
“Bye, Silas,” I whisper.
“Bye, Minnie.”

~ One Day Later / October ~
After hanging up with Cecilia, I spent a little extra time at Clay and Morgan’s before heading home. Closer to my girl. The minute I walked through the door, I grabbed a quick shower and called her up, needing to hear her siren-like voice again.
She told me about her day at work, the things she was working on, as well as the issues that she was having with some of her more demanding clients. I love how passionate she is with her work, the way she talks about it with enthusiasm and excitement.
We moved on to simple topics shortly after, where she told me about her roommate, Emma, and how they met. Along with the crazy things they’ve done together in the six years of being in each other’s lives. I don’t know Emma Mackenzie personally, but from the stories Cecilia has told me, she seems like a great friend for my Minnie.
In return, I told her about Clay and Greyson, about my parents and my brother, and what it was like growing up with hockey. We talked for nearly three hours when I finally let her rest.
Hearing her kitten-like yawn through the phone every two minutes was a big indication of how tired she must have been. She wasn’t the only one exhausted since I fell into a deep slumber the minute we hung up.
I wake to the sun heating my face through the floor-to-ceiling windows. It seems I forgot to switch off the automated curtains last night. For the first day of October, it appears to be a warm one.
I reach out with one hand to my nightstand and pick up my phone, tapping the screen, but it stays dark.Great, I forgot to plug it in, too.I plug in my iPhone and head downstairs to start my day.
After consuming a nutritious breakfast, I make for my home gym and get a two-hour workout session in. By the time I’ve finished my workout, taken a shower, and eaten lunch, it’s a quarter past one.
Retrieving my fully charged phone from my room and turning it on, I’m instantly bombarded by texts from Morgan. I’m about to tap into our message thread when an incoming call takes over the screen, Clay’s name staring back at me.
“Hey.”
“Where the hell are you!? And why weren’t you answering your phone?” he says in an angry whisper.
