In my safe space that was our home.

In my safe place, wrapped in my Mommy’s arms.

Chapter Fourteen

Vivienne

“Princess, are you sure you want to work today? You don’t have to, you know. It’s your birthday after all.”

“I know, Mommy. But I promised Kylee I’d help with the big birthday party in the littles room today. Sounds like a lot of people will be there. Would it be okay if I wore my Princess Tiana dress and tiara?”

“That sounds perfect, sweetheart.” Goddess it was hard keeping this from her. She had no clue it was her own birthday party she thought she was working. All our friends and family waited in the littles room downstairs for her. I dressed my princess in her favorite dress, curled her hair into ringlets and did her make-up for her too. She said she wanted the full princess treatment today and this mommy aimed to please.

“You’re the prettiest birthday girl in the world.” She rolled her eyes. “Did you just roll your eyes at your Mommy? That calls for a spanking little girl.” There was no heat to my words. It was all in fun and teasing today.

“Maybe,” flirtingly, she batted her long lashes. “But it’s my birthday so I get special tickles.”

“Hmm, I believe the jury is still deliberating that one. Alright, sweet girl, let’s get down to the party and see what Kylee needs help with.” Down the stairs we went and into a very dark club.

“Why are the lights off, Mommy? Where’s Kylee? Is everything okay? Abby wasn’t at her desk either?” My little worry wort was in full swing today.

“I’m not sure, let’s see.” I flicked the lights on in the littles room and everyone jumped up and yelled, “Surprise!”

Darcy soared a foot in the air and clutched her chest. “Happy birthday, my love. Go say hi to our family.”

“Mommy!” She squealed and hugged me. “You threw me a surprise party. You’re the bestest!” Darcy kissed me then ran to Vale, hugging him then went one by one hugging everyone else and introducing her monkey to them. The littles laughed when Vale made monkey sounds in his elaborate costume. I knew my dear friend Jack very well and his boy wore nothing but the best, which meant that bespoke costume cost a pretty penny. Vale’s comfort and happiness was number one in his book as Darcy’s was in mine.

“Vale said this is her first real birthday party. He and Sarah would take her to dinner and get her a couple of gifts each year, but she’s never had an actual party.”

The level of anger I had toward Karen amped up at Jack’s words. Addiction was no joke, and I understood that, but you’d think taking care of your child would weigh in somewhere. Thankfully, we’d not heard from her since I gave her a substantial amount of cash. I never disclosed the amount toDarcy, nor would I. But until the woman wanted to get better she had no place in our lives.

Harsh? Maybe, but my girl was still licking very fresh wounds and until she was healed and strong enough to address this—however she chooses, it will remain that way.

“Shutting the club down for this was a great idea.” Rhett stood beside me watching his boy Tyson chase the monkey with the giggling gaggle of littles.

“It was a no brainer and being it’s a Saturday it doesn’t get busy until around nine. Might as well let our employees have a couple extra hours to themselves today.” Instead of opening at four, we’d open at seven tonight. Not one member of staff complained about that change. Hmm, it might be worth doing a cost analysis of our less frequented times and adjust accordingly. Family was everything to Darcy and me, and I could only imagine our work family felt the same about theirs. A couple of extra hours with them may just go a long way with morale.

“Mommy,” my beautiful girl danced over to me. “Did you see all the pretty decorations. Unicorns and Tiana and Rainbows and lots of princess stuff.”

“I see them, my love. They’re adorable. All of your little friends are here, and they love your monkey.”

“He-he, my monkey’s funny, Mommy.”

“He is. Do you think they’d have fun watching him in the pet room?” We’d recently added more jungle gym equipment to the pet playroom with Vale in mind. He’d been taking gymnastics classes. Jack said not only was he having a blast, but it also helped work off some of Vale’s excess energy and he slept better on the night he had class. It was an absolutely brilliant idea and a win-win for Vale and Jack. “Has Vale seen all the fun new stuff in there?”

She shook her head. “No, I don’t think so. Can we take him there now, Mommy?”

“It’s your birthday, Princess. You call the shots.” The way her eyes lit up nearly had me retracting those words. We got the idea for these new additions after our trip to Pride Camp this summer three months ago. Not much time had passed yet so much had happened during that period. Life was funny that way. One day you’re alone, running a business and everything is status quo. Then, the love of your life unexpectedly drops in and everything changes. The better it gets the more you realize how much you almost missed.

My sweet girl wrangled her friends, who followed a cartwheel flipping monkey down the hall. Their giggles filled the club, and I wondered why I hadn’t done events of this nature before. Maybe I’ll hire a party planner that does just that—plans parties we could start offering to our club members. May increase membership too if we allow in others in the lifestyle and keep it to pets and littles with signed NDAs, that just might work.

The wheels never stopped turning in the mind of a business owner.

Vale’s eyes lit up when he spotted the monkey bars and took off at a run for them. The littles clapped and cheered at his acrobatics. The louder they got, the bolder Vale became.

“Does he ever make you nervous?” Whispered words to my proud best friend who smiled wide as he watched his boy in action.

“Abso-fucking-lutely.” We both laughed but the love on Jack’s face as he watched his monkey was unmistakable. “But this makes him unbelievably happy and no daddy in their right mind would take that from their boy.”
