What threw me off was instead of leading me to the bridge, Staff Captain Miller took me to Captain Solis cabins. Were Jalen and I having another playdate? I could really use one.

“Go on in, he’s expecting you.” Captain Miller was a man of little emotion. Normally that was okay but in this instance it only served to set my already frayed nerves further on edge.

I brushed off and straightened my uniform then took a deep breath and opened the door. “Captain Solis?” I called out. “You wanted to see me?”

Jalen came running up and grabbed my hand. He was far too happy right now.

“Come on, Darcy. Hurry up.”

“I’m here to see your…” I stopped dead in my tracks. “Mommy?”

“Yes, Princess. I’ve come to take you home.”

I burst into tears and launched myself at her. Thankfully mommy was a lot stronger than me. “Mommy, I missed you so much.”

“I missed you too, my love, and I didn’t like seeing you sad.”

“But how did you?” I glanced between her and Captain Solis, who smiled just as wide as Mommy was.

“Please forgive mommy for being sneaky, but we have a mutual friend in Captain Solis.”

“We do?”

“Yes. Your mommy is the one who helped me find my boy. Well, Blush did. We’ve known each other for years.”

“Can you forgive mommy for being sneaky?”

“Best kind of sneaky ever, Mommy. But what about my job?”

“Darcy,” Captain Solis took my hand and led me over to the couch. “You’re wonderful at your job but is this your lifelong dream?”

“No, sir.”

“You’re not sleeping, you’re not eating, and you miss your mommy. Jalen would be a mess if he wasn’t with me all the time.” I glanced over at my new friend whose head bobbed up and down. “Those who don’t live our lifestyle don’t understand the depth of the bonds we form. When we love, we love hard and it’s a special kind of love, almost like fated mates.” I giggled. My love of fated mates’ stories made it all make sense. “I’ll give youa glowing recommendation for any job you apply for, but I think it’s best you go home with your mommy where you belong.”

I hugged him so hard he fell back onto the couch. Jalen was beside us giggling.

“Will I ever see you and Jalen again?”

“I can promise you that. Not only are we members at Blush, but your mommy invited us to come visit any time we’re ashore.”

“Really Mommy?”

“Really, really, Princess.”

Now I cried happy tears. Mommy rescued me like a mommy in shining armor, and I had a new friend. And I wasn’t in trouble. Captain Solis wasn’t even mad at me.

“Now, go pack your bags and enjoy San Diego with your mommy. Leave your uniforms in your cabin and I’ll have McKenna take care of them for you.” I hugged him again, then a wiggling Jalen. He was just as excited as I was.

“Armando, thank you for everything,” Mommy hugged him. “Jalen, it was wonderful to see you again. Thank you for taking such good care of my princess.”

“I have a new friend,” Jalen beamed then hugged mommy. “I can’t wait to see your toys, Darcy.”

Poor guy, little did he know he’d already seen my sad little collection. But I didn’t say that out loud. I had my mommy and that was better than any toys.

“Okay, Princess, lead the way.”

So. Freaking. Excited.
