“Hey, Sunshine?” he whispered, his lips tracing my bare shoulder.
Oh, I know that voice. It’s when he wants something. And it was really adorable too when he did that because I could never say no.
“Yes?” I peered up at him from under my lashes.
I knew he was going to ask again. I could feel it.
“I’ve told you everything about me, and I know nothing about you–”
“He’s not wrong.”
“I just don’t like to talk about myself.” I chuckled nervously. “Seems selfish of me to do so. I mean, look what all you have been through, and the other club members. Who could reject Anaki like that?”
Hawke growled, pulling me onto his lap and playfully biting my shoulder. “Don’t talk about him.”
“Why? Are you jealous?” I fluttered my lashes.
“I told you I’m a possessive motherfucker, and I’m not going to have you talk about another unmated shifter.” His nibbling became softer, now licking away the sting. “Your safety is important, Delilah. And tomorrow is the meeting. I need to know what I’m dealing with.”
I gaped at him. “You will do nothing. We are going to hide in here and do nothing.”
Hawke snarled. “Like fuck I will. If you are too scared to talk to him, I will fucking kill him for giving you nightmares. He is the reason for your nightmares, right?”
I scrunched my face in defiance. I just wanted to fade into the shadows and hide. It was cowardly, but I also didn’t want anyone having to fight my battles. Not when I was becoming happy with Hawke.
“My wolf is getting stronger now. I can read you like a book, Dede. I can feel your fear. I can taste your arousal. You really think I haven’t noticed how you tremble? You haven’t even said his name since Bram brought him up.”
I pursed my lips. “It isn’t that big of a deal.”
Liar.
Hawke took his hand and wrapped it around my neck. He didn’t cut off my airway, his hand only squeezing each side of my neck to let me know he was in charge. Instead of shying away in fear, I relished the touch.
I felt safe there despite him being so much stronger than me. For two years, he’d kept me safe and watched over me. The command, the control. I felt like I didn’t have to worry when he was near.
His lips grazed my cheek until they reached my ear. His hot breath fanned my neck, and goose bumps ran down my arm. “I will protect you from this human. Do you doubt me?”
“No,” I whispered, my nipples hardening.
“You are mine in all ways, Delilah. In body, in heart and soul. I will protect you, and I will kill for you.”
I licked my lips as he backed away. A shadow ran across his eyes that I swore was his wolf.
“Tell me, who is he?” Hawke commanded.
“Maybe if you give me one of those orgasms you like to gift me? I might be more compliant then.” I giggled, to relieve the tension.
“You said you were bleeding. Not that it would deter me. I am an animal.” He grinned wickedly.
Holy hotness. But that is just not my jam, not yet anyway.
“I guess that means we will have to wait until I’m finished. Darn, that means he will have come and gone by then.” I smiled sweetly.
“Delilah,” Hawke warned.
My smile faded and was replaced by a miserable frown. I ran my hand down my face as he let go of my neck. I could feel the darkness I’d kept away for so long creeping in.
“He’s my stepbrother,” I muttered, not offering any more information.
