My wolf relinquished his form, letting me take control, and I shifted into my body to help Bram. I didn’t need my mate touching another male, and I pulled him to my side and brought him into the cabin.
“Gods, you pierced it. Is that a biker or an animal thing?” Bram chuckled while I sat him on the couch.
The cabin had transformed into a different floor plan. It had an actual living room with couches, rocking chairs, and a roaring fireplace. The kitchen was stocked with food, and it had a fridge and an actual stove.
“You used your magic, you stupid old man,” I grumbled.
Bram scoffed, grabbing his leg. He rubbed it tenderly, wincing as he hit a certain spot.
“I only needed to use a bit of magic; the cabinisenchanted. I just boosted it a bit. If I’m staying here a few days with you recently mated wolves, I need my own space. Now go put on some pants. We need to talk.”
Delilah giggled, staring at my crotch, which was already hardening. Anytime she looked at it, she looked like she was ready to devour it.
Damnit.
“Let me get you some water, Bram. Are you hungry? Can I get you some pancakes?” She smiled.
“Sweetheart, I would love some.”
I held my mate in my lap as Bram ate his pancakes. My mate wanted to cut them up and feed them to him but the possessive bastard in me wouldn‘t let her.
That was a mate tradition. We fed each other, and I wasn’t going to let her feed him, no matter how exhausted he was.
Bram traveled as soon as he could after we left. We established our escape plan the night he told me who he was. We both had our own demons, and old habits died hard. Men like us always had to have escape plans. Bram said he would protect me and what was mine until the day he died, and I was to leave him, and he would make sure we got a head start if anything ever came for us.
And so, he stayed to make sure we had a head start and so he could tie up loose ends.
Once Delilah and I rode off into the night, Bram blasted them all with a chaos spell that caused mass confusion within a two-block radius. The humans were dazed and confused for at least three hours, but as he was casting it, someone shot him in the leg.
Bram repaired his leg the best he could with a tourniquet. His body would heal faster than a human with any sort of cut or wound. A bullet wouldn’t necessarily kill him if he stopped the bleeding. But if it hit the heart, well, that was a different story. Magical beings also couldn’t conduct healing magic on themselves. There had to be a balance.
Before the spell was cast, Bram said Shane had lost his shit when Delilah and I left. Shane’s cold demeanor dissipated once we rode off into the night, and he said that all of his men would die horrible deaths if they didn’t bring his wife back to him within the hour. He also wanted me dead and if I was seen, I was to be shot on sight.
I scoffed at that. Little did he know what I was going to do to him the next time I saw him.
The Chaos Spell gave Bram time to repair the shop and reanimate the shop owner. Bram didn’t mention if the human did in fact, reanimate, and I didn’t ask. That was tricky business reanimating humans. Delilah wouldn’t know to ask if he actually survived the reanimation process, and thank the gods for that.
It was probably best the old male didn’t wake up. Because if he woke with Shane staring at him in the face, he most likely would have wished he was dead.
Delilah sighed, wrapping her arms around her legs. She nuzzled under my neck, taking long deep breaths. She purred, and my heart pounded heavily in my chest.
We were safe, she was safe, and soon we would be back home where our family was.
Bram wasn’t sure how Delilah’s stepbrother knew where Delilah was hidden. It could have been straight-up coincidence, and they were knocking on every door in the city. Or Simon’s memory spell wore off early, and he immediately reported to Shane. It wouldn’t be a far-fetched idea, because Bram’s powers were half as potent, and Simon would recall the caster of the spell.
Delilah watched as Bram took another bite, humming in appreciation. Her fingers pulled on the oversized shirt she wore. She ached to go help him, to wipe his mouth or grab his drink to put to his lips.
But once again, I was a selfish bastard.
Bram smirked, knowing exactly what was happening. I didn’t know the extent of his powers, if he could read minds or could understand the body language between my mate and, I but he was reveling in my discomfort.
“Delilah, It’s alright. Your mate will maul me to death if you keep trying to help me. I’m a big strong male; I can handle myself.”
Delilah’s mouth dropped open, her gorgeous hair flung into my face. “Wha–”
“You cannot help me right now; you are freshly marked. Puppy and Hawke would have a field day if you touched me.” Bram wiped his lips with the napkin.
He shakily put the plate on the table and let out a sigh, leaning back in the rocking chair. “Now I need to let you both know that this Shane fellow is dead set on getting Delilah back. I wouldn’t be surprised if he is scouring cameras to find out what direction you took off to. I did my best to scramble as many of them as I could, but I am no Switch.”
