They all shook their heads.

“No, no storms. But the sea is unsettled. I’m not sure if we should surf in this,” Kal said.

It was strange, not at all our typical ocean. I couldn’t put my finger on why the sea was unsettled.

“We could travel down the beach to the resorts,” I said. “When I left work at The Blue Dolphin, the waves looked calmer.”

The group murmured in agreement and picked up their boards. Instead of us all piling into our cars and trying to find parking near a resort, we walked.

The sound of our conversation mixed with the sound of the waves as I walked into the ocean, the water caressing my feet.

The worries of the day began to fade as we walked, and the ocean crashing into the beach blurred out the roars of laughter from this group of surfers.

I just needed to take one day at a time, and hopefully find the piece that had always been missing.

Chapter Four

Poseidon

“Yousureyoucan’tadd more muscles? I mean, keep to some of the natural muscle mass you have?” Zeus asked. “I mean you are a good-looking god, and the women folk really dig a well-built guy. Finding your mate would be so much easier because they would come to you.”

I hummed in disagreement. “I appreciate the compliment, but I like this slimmer figure. What I have noticed is that you attract all the women I wouldn’t want to have as a mate. They all look like cats in heat.”

Zeus barked a laugh, and I felt my skin prickle at the sharpness of his voice.

We were walking back to our suite at the hotel. It was a smaller resort on the island, one I handpicked. I still wasn’t ready to meet hordes of people, and when this hotel had an opening for a room for over a month, we grabbed it.

I needed to ease myself into the human world.

Zeus didn’t need to acclimate. He acted as if he owned the place. Even in his human form, he commanded the room. The women flocked to him and with just two fingers pointing to the table, he could summon food without a word.

“Poseidon, my brother, I know being here is difficult for you. But you cannot make yourself hideous, otherwise your mate will have conflicted emotions.”

“You think I’m hideous? I only toned down my upper body a bit. Lucifer has the slim, muscular human body, and Uriel likes that, doesn’t she?”

Zeus stood thoughtfully, rummaging through his swim trunks to produce the key card.

“Yes, but Lucifer, he has a…a commanding aura. Uriel is attracted to that big daddy dom vibe he has going on.”

“Big daddy dom vibe?” I whispered. “What is that?”

Zeus pushed the door to our hotel room in and cleared his throat. “That is a lesson for another day when we talk about pounding your mate.”

I felt a chill run down my spine. “You mean intercourse? Coitus?”

That was a conversation I wasn’t ready for.

Zeus groaned. “Definitely bringing Ares in for that lesson.”

Zeus shut the door with a kick of his foot, and the lights turned on instantly. The flowers had been replaced, room service dishes collected and most of all, the sweet smell of coconuts and vanilla sanitizer cooled my blood instantly.

I was hot under the collar from standing out in the sun. The newly gained tan would help me regulate the hot rays. But I still was not acquainted with the new look.

“Ah, Poseidon, you were nearly late. I congratulate you,” a feminine voice purred on the other side of the room.

The windows were drawn open, letting in the sunlight and obscuring the face of the goddess sitting in the high-backed chair. But her voice was calming, and I instantly knew who it was.

“Athena, glad you are here,” I said, stepping into the living room.
