I nodded, sniffing.

“I would never keep you from your family, Koma or Candice. They keep you happy. I would not take you beneath the sea so you could never see them again.”

I pulled away from his embrace, seeing the truth in his eyes. They were soft, but he held a firm gaze of determination. “You will see them again, Lani. Anytime you want, I will take you to them. It will be harder for them to come visit here, but I will make it happen.”

I breathed out a sigh of relief, my forehead landing on his shoulder. “What about when they get older? What happens then?” My lip trembled.

Poseidon grabbed the back of my head, his fingers massaging my scalp. “I cannot promise this since I am the first god to take a human, but in the supernatural realm, if a human is matched with a supernatural, they are gifted their power and live until they are fatally wounded. I have watched blood relatives of these creatures, such as brothers and sisters or a parent, eventually become mated to a supernatural being.”

“But Koma and are I are not blood related, does that make a difference?”

Poseidon leaned back into the seat, his hand rubbing his beard. “You are spirit brother and sister, I can feel it in here.” He placed his hand over my heart. “You both may have been born of different parents. But your love, how your family brought him into their home and said that he was theirs proves you both are brother and sister.”

I sighed. “So that means that Koma will live on? He won’t grow old and die?”

Poseidon pursed his lips together, stroking my cheek with his thumb. “Yes, most likely. Either supernatural or god, I’m not sure.”

“And what of Candice? My parents didn’t adopt her, I met her at the resort. I still love her!” I pressed.

Poseidon gazed over his kingdom. We watched in silence as I waited for his reply. But I knew Candice might not receive that gift.

“I understand,” I sniffed, picking a hangnail. “I understand she might not have a mate.”

Poseidon sighed. “I am sorry, My Flower. I just cannot guarantee it.” He picked up some cheese and fruit from the table. “Here, you need sustenance. I know you are hungry.”

I was hungry, but how could I eat, knowing I would watch my best friend die?

I chewed slowly. Poseidon holding me was all the comfort I needed as I ate the tasteless food. He continued to play with my hair, and I rested my head on his shoulder.

I wasn’t angry with Poseidon, but I was disappointed I couldn’t pair her up with someone so she could live a long life like me.

What was she going to say about me though? If she was given the opportunity to be mated to someone she cared about? Loved? Would she take the chance? I would be pissed if she didn’t take the chance if she was in my position. But I wanted to be sure, she had to know.

“May I see her before we bond? Can I tell her about us? What’s going to happen?”

Poseidon sat thoughtfully, his hand rubbing my back tenderly. I leaned into his touch, feeling the heat of his arm wrapping around my body.

“Of course you can. She will have to promise not to speak of this to anyone. Not that many would believe her, anyway.”

I chuckled, wiping away my last tears.

“And does bonding hurt?” I squeezed my thigh.

“Quite the opposite, I am told it is very pleasurable. In fact, you may sleep for days afterwards. I would like to do more research on god-bonding since I have only read about it with supernaturals, however.”

Passing out over intense orgasms? Hell, I’m down.

“I love you,” I whispered, leaning into him.

I could feel his smile resting on the top of my head.

“I know.”

I scoffed. “Really now? You do?”

“You told me in your sleep last night while I bathed you, My Flower. I’ve been up all night waiting to share my excitement with you and to tell you–”

His mouth reached mine, kissing me tenderly, until he opened my mouth with his tongue and dipped it inside. My head leaned back as his kiss became more frantic.
