“Hi!” Uriel waved excitedly. She began her bouncy trot over, but Lucifer grabbed her around the waist. His wings encircled her, only letting her head pop out from the top of them. “I’m Uriel, Goddess of Innocence and Grace, that’s Loki, God of Mischief.” She pointed to the other side of the kitchen. “And this is Lucifer, he’s my mate, God of Destruction, but the only destruction he says he does now is destroying my—”
“That’s enough, Bunny,” Lucifer growled.
Uriel laughed. “And we have been so excited to meet you as Poseidon’s mate.”
I internally groaned.
“One thing at a time. I don’t think Lani could take much more. Explaining about mates could be too much,” Lucifer whispered in her ear.
“Well, it’s very nice to meet you,” Lani said cautiously. “And how do you know Poseidon exactly? Not just that you are gods I mean, what is your relationship?” Lani’s voice was curt and no nonsense. My senses told me she wasn’t quite convinced that Uriel meant nothing to me but pure friendship.
“Since I’m the Goddess of Innocence and Grace, I helped Poseidon ease the pain in his soul. I haven’t seen him for a long time because he’s been searching for you. Zeus said he was a mess, though. Thought he was gonna end up back down here and hide away–”
“That’s enough,” Lucifer interrupted her. “Let Lani have time to process all of this. It’s a lot for a human.”
“I’m confused, searching for me?” Lani gazed up at me. “You were looking for me?”
“Yeah, but Luci said you are supposed to have brown eyes!” Uriel said, and Lucifer covered her mouth.
Lani stuttered and rubbed her cheek. “I used to have brown eyes,” Lani said. “I had the same eyes as my father, but one day after surfing, they were blue and green. Many thought the ancestors cursed me or a demon got a hold of me.” She chuckled. “It happened a few months ago.”
“Right when my mother would have threaded your souls together,” Lucifer pensively said. “That makes sense. Whatever goddess she is to become must already be taking shape before you mark her.”
“What?” Lani squealed. “Goddess? And mates? I’m really confused.”
Uriel broke free of Lucifer’s hold and picked up the hot pan of brownies. “Here, Poseidon made you brownies!” she chirped.
Lani hesitantly held out her hands to accept the gift, her body moving on its own, but then Uriel grabbed her wrist. The pan of brownies dropped to the floor, and Uriel’s blast of warmth encircled Lani’s wrist.
Lani sighed and leaned into me, her breath fanning against my neck.
“There, there, now. That will take all the stress away. We got carried away, didn’t we Luci?”
Lucifer ran his hand through his hair and muttered curses under his breath.
“You must ask permission before you put your powers on a human, Bunny. We don’t know how that will affect her.”
Lani giggled. “I feel kinda funny.”
Chapter Twenty-Five
Lani
IfeltlikeIwas in a dream when I woke up. Everything was hazy; but once I shook off the sleepiness and saw fish staring at me from the ceiling, I quickly realized this was reality.
No amount of pinching myself would wake me from this wild ride. The giant clam bed was real, the dome shaped room keeping a million gallons of water from crashing down on me was real.
After a good freak out session, I concluded:
Cy was Poseidon.
Why I didn’t put the pieces of the puzzle together before, I wasn’t sure. Oh wait, I know, maybe because it was all a freaking myth? Greek mythology was supposed to be a myth, anyway!
After I calmed myself enough to leave the room. I called out Poseidon’s name, albeit a bit too quietly, because I didn’t want to alert any other fish-looking people while I was wandering the halls.
Not that they would be dangerous, not when Cy, I mean Poseidon, lived here.
I constantly pulled the tunic Poseidon dressed me in up to my nose. It had the same smell from his pillow and blanket back at the hotel. It calmed me and made me relax despite the past six hours of overwhelming info dump.
