“My Lord?” I could hear his tentacles popping on the floor, backing away.

“I fear I am feeling quite possessive of my mate, and I do not wish to hurt you because of these peculiar emotions.” I breathed deeply, letting Lani’s scent fill my lungs.

“I am sorry,” he whispered. “I should have realized.”

Silas continued to back away until I heard him pass through my living quarters and out the door.

I closed my eyes, breathing a sigh of relief. I wasn’t used to the raging emotions, the anger, the possessiveness.“Lani, what are you doing to me?”

After making sure my room was protected by an invisible barrier, I strolled down moss covered carpet, my bare feet reveling in its softness. The earth’s soil was rough on my feet and dry and unforgiving on my skin. The thick atmosphere covered my body, keeping it hydrated, and my hair waved in the current like we were still underwater.

It was a perfect atmosphere, especially for the species I had created that were supposed to live in the ocean. Their scales would not dry out and their bodies would be able to adjust to the gravity, which was less intense than on the surface.

I strode toward the kitchen, ready to make a meal for my mate. Since her ancestors were used to males preparing and making meals, I would provide one for her.

What would she enjoy? Fresh fish? Some desserts? Aphrodite said females loved sweets, especially chocolate. Maybe I could prepare dishes with sugar to sweeten her up.

Would she let me eat dessert off her? The idea popped into my head far faster than I could have imagined. Watching a sweet cream fall between her breasts, down to her navel. Could I lick her navel and trail my tongue up and suck on those pert, tanned nipples again?

I groaned, my erection swelling. I’d never been this hard, my testicles hurt and felt heavy, and I wanted another release after only a short time.

“My Lord?” I heard Silas from around the corner of the hallway. He poked his head out from the corner, and his black hair waved around his head. “Is it safe to come out now?”

I covered myself with my robes and chuckled nervously. I beckoned him over. “I am sorry. I am experiencing emotions I am not familiar with,” I breathed. “I do not know how to deal with them.”

Silas nodded, his tentacles cruising along the moss. “It is my mistake. I should have known. You are usually so docile, even when you are angry, I thought it may be alright. I am happy that it is not the case.”

“Why so?” I asked, my arms behind my back.

“Because it shows you care for her, and you won’t give her up. I knew it when you first saw her. She was just as entranced as you were when you looked into her eyes when you saved her.”

I shook my head. “No, she was just amazed that a merman saved her. A creature from fairy tales, not because it was me.”

“You do not give yourself enough credit, my Lord. It is obvious she cares for you. Between how comfortable you and she are around each other and the smell of her arousal–”

“What?” I growled.

Silas stepped back in surprise. “My Lord, you have guests! Yes! You have guests waiting for you! They are in the kitchen!” He pushed his tentacles forcefully downward, shooting himself to the far side of the hallway and pushed in the door to the kitchen. Laughter and giggling echoed through the doorway.

The kitchen?

I stomped to the open doorway, glaring at Silas. “Do not tell me you can smell her, I am not responsible for what I will do in a fit of anger, Silas. Do not test me.” He nodded and bowed respectfully. “Now, who is here visiting? How did they know I was here?”

“Your visitors wanted to be made aware when you returned to the palace. They wanted to welcome and congratulate you.”

There were very few gods I would let into my home with no announcement. My lip twitched into a smile, and I pushed the door open wider.

As I entered, a squeal of excitement greeted me, and for the first time, I didn’t wince at the noise.

Chapter Twenty-Four

Poseidon

“Poseidon!”Uriel'sdelightedsquealfilled the room as she pranced toward me. The knee-length hem of her pale pink dress rose as she twirled away from Lucifer.

Uriel’s dark, curled hair bounced as she reached toward me, raising her arms to give me a hug around the neck. When the Goddess of Innocence and Grace gave you a hug, you didn’t deny it.
