My legs tightened around Cy, who was snorting with laughter. If he was laughing, then I wasn’t going to die right? He knew this…creature?
Cy continued to laugh. It was the hardest I’ve ever seen him do so. It warmed my heart hearing him laugh so carefreely. His body was loose, his laughter echoing through the empty town.
Okay, so this thing isn’t a threat.
I peeked over Cy’s shoulder, watching the creature. His skin was a darker grey; spots blended into his skin and made patterns all over his body. His tentacles helped propel him through the water as he came closer. They fell and rose along with the gentle current.
Cy put his arms around me, trying to push me off his body.
“No, no, no!” I gripped Cy tighter.
His hand ran up and down my back, his chest filled with air and sighed contentedly. His lips lightly brushed against my temple, and a gentle sound of humming emanated from his mouth.
“Lani, it’s alright. He isn’t going to hurt you.”
I shook my head and muttered, “Nuh uh.”
He chuckled. “This is Silas. He is a kraken. He is my most trusted friend. He’s wearing a bubble apparatus now, so he can speak to you. Silas, this is Lani.”
I lifted my head, but my grip around Cy didn’t lessen.
Ah, so he can breathe water and air?Interesting.
Silas, as large as he was, lowered himself so his body was lower than mine. He wasn’t as intimidating in this position, but he was still strange to look at.
“It is a pleasure to meet you, Lani,” he held out his hand. I looked to Cy for reassurance, and he nodded, so I shook Silas’ hand. He even felt like a damn octopus.
I better not tell him I like to eat his cousins.
“Nice to meet you, too. I’m sorry, you startled me.” I tried to recover, releasing my tight grip around Cy.
Silas grinned, rising with a push of his tentacles off the path. “I know I did more than startle you. I’m sure Cy did not tell you I was meeting you today.”
“Yes, my Little Poseidon didn’t tell me much of anything.” I raised a brow.
Silas made a face I couldn’t decipher, and Cy shook his head, his hand resting on my lower back.
What’s going on?
“I think it is time you tell her. Your island flower looks like she will lose her petals if you don’t tell her soon,” Silas said cryptically.
Chapter Twenty-Two
Lani
Cytookadeepbreath and then slowly exhaled before nodding in agreement.
“We will see you later this evening,” Cy replied, and nodded to Silas.
“A pleasure to meet you.” Silas bowed to me.
Cy pulled me away from Silas who waved a few of his tentacles. Silas’s smile remained the further I was pulled away until he popped the bubble that surrounded his head.
“Wait, I wanna talk to him,” I whined. “He’s got tentacles!” I ogled the kraken.
I like tentacles. But, it would be cooler if Cy had a tentacle that I could use. I snickered.
But Cy ignored me, his arm wrapped securely around my waist.
