The older man took off his glasses, finally acknowledging the two other men in the room. He shook his head, almost in disbelief. “That man? More like a boy. He’s smaller than you, and you let him bruise you?” He scowled at his son and returned his gaze to us.

“Who are you, and what do you want? I’ll have you know security will be up here any minute.”

The old man went to press a button on his watch, but Zeus raised his hand, and lightning struck the device. The man yelled, unbuckling his watch from his wrist, and threw it on the floor.

“No one is coming,” Zeus said.

“In fact, we aren’t even here for room service,” I said, stepping toward Cory. He stood, the tightening of his jaw faltered, instead quivering in pain. I could hear Cory’s heart race. But smaller details of his hands fisted at his sides, his sweat on his brow made me realize he was nervous.

Once I reached Cory, I let go of my human form and turned into my god form. My body doubled in size, and thunder rolled in the distance.

“I’m here for payment,” I said.

My red hair floated around me. Zeus struck out all the lights of the room. His bright blonde hair and his electric blue eyes were the only light along with the lightning that pierced the sky.

Cory backed away, his body quivering with fear. A hint of urine tainted the air.

Zeus chuckled, hovering over the old man. “Seems like you raised a pussy for a son, Keola.”

Keola’s eyes widened, his back stiffening. “How do you know my name? This is absurd!” He stood, his suit rustling around his large protruding stomach. It was a mockery of his ancestors. He was betraying his own blood by selling away pieces of land to those that wished to exploit them.

Zeus’s eyes glowed brighter, the electricity buzzing around his hair. Keola took a step back, looking for something to grasp but he fell to the floor when he backed into the serving tray.

“At least this one didn’t piss himself,” Zeus snorted.

“Who the hell are you people?” Keola yelled.

“Gods,” Zeus mused.

I bent down to the floor, picking up Cory by the neck. The bottles on the serving cart popped, pieces of glass trickled to the floor. Water from vases, drinking glasses, toilets all rose into the air and appeared above Cory’s head.

As Cory looked up, he watched the droplets of water from the hovering orb land on his skin, slowly and steadily drenching him.

Flashes of Lani’s fear came to the forefront of my mind. I snarled, letting sharp fangs protrude from my mouth.

“You are to leave Lani, Candice, and all women alone for the rest of your days,” I said darkly. As he looked up, the lightning illuminated the sky above him, each strike accompanied by a gentle drizzle of water on his face. “Do you understand?”

Cory’s lips trembled, unintelligible murmurs and whimpers left his lips until he passed out from fear.

Zeus rolled his eyes from afar, chuckling to himself.

To wake Cory, I let the orb of water engulf his head. He tried to gasp for air, but air from his lungs escaped.

I left the orb there, watching him slowly drown.

He had touched what was mine.

He had touched, hurt, and scared my mate.

Zeus cleared his throat, shaking his head.

He was right; I couldn’t let my emotions take his life. Instead, I would make him suffer much worse.

I lifted the orb, and Cory gasped for air. He coughed, and I felt his fingers pressing into my wrists as he tried to pull away. His blunt, clean nails barely touched the surface of my skin and that was when I gained the perfect idea.

“Keola,” I commanded. Zeus pulled the older man to my side. As he watched his son, the fear was palpable, and his body shook violently.

“You are to remove your son from his inheritance. You are to cut him off completely, he will receive no more money from you or your family. He will learn a hard day’s work for the rest of his days.”
