“Yousureyouwantto do this? This doesn’t sound like you,” Zeus said as we appeared in front of luxury condominium apartments.
Of course, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to instigate another encounter with Cory. One punch to the face was enough, but what of Naia? What if my actions caused irreversible damage to the little restaurant that had that amazing pork? I would never forgive myself.
“I’m sure,” I mumbled.
The bond clicked into place. I felt an intense and overwhelming obsession for my mate, full of anger that someone had taken advantage of her, and my intense desire was to make sure that the weak human was made to suffer for touching something that was mine.
It didn’t take long to find Cory. Especially after finding out his father, Keola, was one of the richest natives on the island. Cory even lived with the man. Both were certainly living the high life. Security guards and cameras littered the first floor. The preventative measures so no one could penetrate this fortress were almost laughable.
You can’t keep out the gods.
“I’m sure. This Cory needs to learn his place, and that is to stay far away from my mate and any other female. Blatant disrespect to any human should be punished.”
Zeus eyed me as we made ourselves invisible to the human eye. We strode to the elevators, and I pressed the elevator button harshly. I let out a huff and Zeus backed away.
“You are really upset by this,” he said as he smiled. “This is good. It means the bond is really taking over. I’m proud of you.”
I crossed my arms over my chest. The pride I felt at my brother’s words felt good, but I’d rather hear it from Lani. It felt more genuine from her.
Zeus cleared his throat. “Right, let’s go.”
As we reached Cory’s floor, which he shared with his father, we willed ourselves into the appearance of the hired help—crisp, white uniforms with trays full of food and flowers.
“Room service,” Zeus announced, ringing the doorbell.
I took a deep breath, trying to calm my racing heart. I could have appeared in his home, threatened him, and been on my way, but Zeus said being more dramatic brings fear to humans. If we appear as humans and turn into gods right before their eyes, it makes them remember not to mess with us—that we could be anyone on the street, watching them.
Cory gingerly opened the door, and there, in the middle of the room, was his father, seated at a large mahogany dining table.
“We didn’t order any room service,” Cory said, leaning on the door frame. I wanted to slam my fist into the bastard’s face again. It only looked heavily bruised, not broken like I suspected.
Damn.
It was my turn to speak, but I fumbled, chewing on my inner cheek instead. I wanted to slam my fist into the bastard’s face again.
That won’t do.
Zeus nudged me, but I ground my teeth in anger. Cory touched my mate, he had touched what was mine.
“Right, well, this was sent by a woman named Lani, regarding an apology from an unfortunate event,” Zeus said.
Cory scoffed, opening the door. “Let’s see what the bitch brought me. She owes me more than just freaking food. Some damn pussy would be nice.
“Cory,” Keola snapped, not even looking toward us. “If you expect to keep any of your inheritance, you best watch your mouth. I won’t have you ruin my name because of your extracurricular endeavors.”
“Well, those endeavors have allowed you to break the contract with that Naia didn’t it? How long have you wanted that land?” Cory smirked.
My fists tightened on the cart as we wheeled it in. The liquid on the tray rippled as I tried to reign in my anger. I could feel my blood heating. They were planning to take Naia’s restaurant, all because I defended my mate’s honor.
The sparkling water in their glass bottles shook, and they clinked together. One fell on the cart, rolling and falling to the floor. Lightning lit up the darkened sky as Zeus cracked his neck.
“Good help is hard to find these days, now isn’t it? Loud and disrespectful.” The old man drawled. “You’ve delivered the cart. You are dismissed.” He waved his hand.
“Don’t think so,” Zeus said darkly. “We also have another message.”
We both lowered our disguises as services workers and appeared in our human forms. Cory shook his head, rubbing his eyes like a petulant child.
“Hey, what the fuck! That’s the guy that punched me in the face! How the hell did you get in here?” Cory yelled.
