Oh God, does she like me? Can she see my erection? Can she see how damn nervous I am around her?
Because right now, I was worried the padding on my bra would tear because I had diamonds for tits and a tear trying to roll down my leg.
I swallowed, my bravado fading fast, but Zeus did a brief nod of encouragement. At least Cy’s friend was paying attention to me and coaching me through this, because mine was trying to laser beam Zeus out of his chair.
My hand left my thigh, and I grabbed Cy’s hand under the table.
“Is this, okay?” I whispered. I waited for him to pull away, but he didn’t.
Instead, he squeezed my hand back and nodded. “It is very peaceful out here.” He took a breath. “A-and I enjoy being out here with you, Lani. Thank you for bringing us.”
My heart nearly exploded at his praise, his fingers now intertwining with mine, and that wonderful sensation of fireflies floating up my arm and into my chest.
Holy hell, I feel like I’m flying.
I crossed my ankles, trying to keep my thighs tight together, and that was when Cy took a deep breath in. His pupils slitted vertically, and my breasts felt like bulging coconuts in my bra.
Woah, his eyes?
Before I could speak, Candice muttered, “oh hell.”
Our moment was broken.
Candice grabbed her drink and tipped it to her lips. “Sorry, Lani. Looks like Cory is coming over here.” She winced.
Realization struck me about why Cory, the horn dog rumored to have a huge schlong, was coming over here, and I wanted to face palm my forehead.
“You canceled that, um, appointment a few days ago, right?” I cleared my throat.
Candice flinched. “Um, I forgot?”
Oh, shells.
Chapter Twelve
Poseidon
“WhoisCory?”Iasked. And I had a feeling I would not like the answer.
This male approaching was attractive, for the human species anyway. He was tall, built, and had a small leg running down his thigh. His eyes flashed darkly, and the smirk on his face seemed to amplify the feeling that this male would be trouble.
I gripped Lani’s hand tighter. She was looking over her shoulder, trying to stand, but I pulled her back down where the side of her leg was nearly sitting on mine.
I thought we were getting somewhere. It was like I mastered another one of those pointless games such as Candy Crush. I lined up the candies perfectly, my walls were crumbling, and I felt myself opening up to her.
Only for this male to come waltzing up like he owned the place.
I’m not a forceful person, not by any means, and since Kronos had been defeated, I had become weak. I couldn’t stare at anyone in the eye for fear Kronos might lurk beneath the surface.
Kronos had hid himself well in Zeus.
Eye contact with anyone was now disturbing. When I gazed into Lani’s eyes, the fear I felt dissipated, and I felt a deep connection to her soul. It took months for me to dare look Athena in the eye, but with Lani everything felt so much simpler.
I didn’t question myself as much when it came to her. Her touch soothed me more than Uriel’s and the more physical time spent with her healed me in ways I so desperately needed.
“I tried to set Lani up on a date,” Candice confessed. “When her brother left a few days ago, I knew she’d be sad. I thought I’d get her an easy lay, you know, let her have some fun.” Candice shrugged, biting her lip.
I narrowed my eyes at the blonde-haired harlot. My mate wouldn’t do such a thing. She wouldn’t subject herself to a one-night stand, not when she was trying so hard to get to know me.
