They tricked me, belittled me, and left me alone again.

My brothers and sisters couldn’t have cared less about what I was doing. They gave me false hopes of creating relationships. When I thought they cared about how I could create humanoid creatures with animalistic abilities, they used me for their own selfish desires. At one time, they wanted to destroy the humans and with my creations, they almost did just that.

Luckily, I noticed what they were doing in time. Ares and Selene created werewolves to destroy the creatures that had become evil because of the gods and their powers of manipulation.

When Zeus and Athena noticed howoffI was after the Kronos incident months ago, they took me on as their pet project.

I had broken further, unable to stand anyone’s touch or look anyone in the eye. It was even harder to look into Zeus’s when Kronos had hid inside his mind.

But Zeus was seeking redemption. He wanted to be capable of leading as the High God. Athena was doing this just because she wanted to put into practice what she had learned about the psyche.

They might show me compassion now, but they were doing it for their own reasons. Not because of me. They didn’treallycare.

And it angered me and made me feel lower than I already felt.

“I think it is best you leave.” I turned my legs and laid on the bed.

There was only a plain white ceiling. Not the giant bubble capsule I could stare up and watch the schools of fish swim around me. There was nothing and no one there.

Just like there truly wasn’t someone here trying to help me.

Their words were empty.

Zeus pushed away from the door, his towering form hovering over me. I flinched, looking away, hoping he didn’t see how pathetic I was. He uncrossed his arms, his strong eyebrows rising.

“Why do you want me to go? I’m trying to help. You know–”

“You want to help me because you want everyone to see you are some fearless leader, someone with half a brain. A true King of the Celestial Kingdom without the help of Hera.”

Zeus didn’t step away, instead he reached for my arm. I pulled it away harshly as if his touch would burn it.

“For once, be honest with me. Because we both know it would be the first time,” I said. I licked my lips and saw the flash of pain in Zeus’s eyes. “At any point in time would you have descended into the sea to visit me if it weren’t for Kronos’s uprising months ago?”

Zeus sighed, staring at the ground.

Kronos infiltrated into Zeus’s head and took over his body and his kingdom in such a short amount of time. Without the help of all the gods, especially Uriel, Earth, Bergarian, and the Celestial Kingdom would have been destroyed. The only reason I left my kingdom was to try to help. Even if most of the gods had betrayed me, I still owed it to the ones that had come to be my friends.

They did not betray me, they did not use me. Why would I let them suffer?

I softly murmured, “I didn’t think so,” feeling the coolness of the pillow against my cheek.

Zeus strode away, turning his back to me until he reached the doorway. A ping echoed in my hand, and the phone vibrated.

Lani: Yay! That makes me happy! How about in two days?

I sat straight up in bed, staring at the screen. Two days? My eyes widened. She wants to take me to dinner in two days?!

“Hey man, what’s wrong?” Zeus asked, coming back to the bed.

I showed him the phone, and he smiled. “That’s great! Easy man, let’s take some deep breaths.” Zeus took a large breath in and let it slowly out. He continued until my breath slowed and my body stopped trying to throw my heart out through my throat. Afterward, I slumped my shoulders and ran my fingers through my hair.

“Zeus, I–”

“No.” Zeus shook his head. “I get it, I’ve been a real ass, okay? Like major ass. For the longest time, I thought only of myself. I slept around with a lot of men, women, supernatural stuff you created. My dick has been everywhere. I lost Hera, then that is when reality hit, man. I swear to you.”

Zeus motioned to the bed to ask if he could sit, and I nodded.

“I haven’t slept with anyone in a really long time. I’m trying to get my shit together. I thought I was on the road to getting better until the gods were being paired off, and then I lost Hera.” His voice softened. “I loved her, still do, but I’m really happy for her that she's got Michael. He’s treated her better than I ever did. And they have a wonderful daughter,” he sniffed.
