“You’re pretty banged up; I say we get you back to our suite and see if we can patch some of these bruises. Until then, we will have Cy carry you.”
It was then I turned to see the person holding my hand, and it wasn’t the red-headed merman I was hoping for.
Of course, it wouldn’t be. Pretty sure the tail would have everyone on the beach freaking the hell out.
He was still a handsome soul, tanned, and muscular, with sprouts of dark hair on his chest. In fact, he was downright sexy, but I didn’t get the same heart palpitations as I did from my dream.
“Did you save me?” I asked, sitting up.
He had the same soft eyes, but they were filled with panic. His lips parted, and he tried to let go of my hand. His touch leaving my skin caused a sadness that clenched my heart like a vice.
“I uh,” he began until he scooted far enough away to where I couldn’t reach him.
His face flared red despite the dark tan, and he looked everywhere but me.
I checked my chest, making sure my girls weren’t hanging out and made sure the lady parts were covered.
That would have been embarrassing, losing the bottoms.
“He’s a bit shy. Don’t take any offense by it. He isn’t used to being out this long in the sun, either,” the doctor said, putting her hand on my shoulder. “I’m Athena, by the way. Let’s get you to stand up if you think you can.”
My legs were wobbly, and the scrapes on my legs and arms were stiff, but that was to be expected. Athena helped me to my feet, and I could get a better picture of what she looked like.
Short hair, plain knee length cargo shorts and a wild Hawaiian shirt. She looked me up and down, and Cy was already standing beside me in an instant.
I was tall, but Cy was a good head taller than me, and when I looked at him, he turned his head away and rubbed his hands together.
Aw, he’s freaking shy.
He’s like a little cinnamon roll from all the manga I read.
I smiled at him. He couldn’t obviously see, but when I turned around, Athena had a smirk on her face.
Damn, I’m obvious.
Candice was quiet, and she reached for my arm, wrapping hers around mine as we walked. The bit of leg pain I felt was a pleasant reminder that I was lucky to be alive.
I was stupid for not running when the wave was coming, but the giant wave caught me like a deer frozen in the headlights. I couldn’t look away. It wasn’t just the impending doom that I thought it would bring, but instead, it brought thoughts of a new beginning. But that thought was quickly shattered when my body slammed into the concrete-hard sand.
Athena and the other man known as Zeus led Candice and I into their suite. The same suite we had cleaned earlier that day, and my face paled.
I hoped whoever had the room where I rubbed my face all over their pillow didn’t notice. Otherwise, this was going to get really awkward.
Athena motioned me to sit at the kitchen table. I let out a hiss, feeling the sting in my backside where my fat ass had been dragged into the ocean.
“Is she okay?” Cy stepped forward in his deep blue and yellow accented, flowered swim trunks.
Maybe that is where I got the colors for the merman from?
“I’m fine,” I said shyly, rubbing my butt. “Just a little raspberry.”
Cy didn’t look fine when I told him that. His lips were pursed into a line, and his body became rigid. He stayed several feet away from me, but I felt that heated stare until I made it blatantly obvious I was looking at him.
But then he backed away, turning his head and hiding himself behind the small kitchen counter.
Candice smirked, holding her hand to her face watching the poor soul.
“So, Zeus and Athena, huh?” I asked as Athena rummaged through a large bag filled with doctor-y things.
