If I could help Delilah, I would. I would do anything for the first friend I’d made in this crazy world.

“I’ll do it,” I whispered. “I’ll do the best I can.”

Instead of jumping for joy, Selene pressed her forehead against mine. A blue glow lit the area surrounding us. The snowflakes reflected a blue sparkle, and my forehead was bathed in warmth.

Once she pulled her forehead away, a point down crescent moon appeared on her forehead.

“Thank you, my little priestess,” she smiled.

She rose to her full height, but instead of returning to the worn bench, she covered her feet with her robes and floated over the cliff and stood over the valley.

The thought of the couple that died a horrible death because of no open connection to the goddess broke my heart. How awful it was for a human to suffer. Especially when neither of them knew what to do to fix it. Would their souls ever come together?

“Moon Goddess?” I said loud enough for her to hear. She turned to me, the blue crescent glowing brightly. “The human and her mate that perished, will they get their second chance? Soon? I feel like they shouldn’t wait much longer.”

Thoughts of Delilah and Hawke kept hovering in my mind. I rubbed my forehead, feeling the warmth from the Goddess’s touch.

The goddess chuckled. “I’d say very soon.” She swished her robes side to side. “And it is all because of you.”

Chapter Thirty Six

Journey

Selene’srobestwirledaroundher until her body molded with the sky. Her dress became the clouds covering the full moon from view. The warmth of a nearby breeze blew on my neck, and I rubbed my shoulder to find something soft and furry beneath it.

My eyes blinked once, and I found my body lying beneath soft blankets and pillows with a gigantic body on top of me.

“Why do I keep waking up covered in either blankets or bodies?” I silently huffed.

Instead of feeling Grim’s beard, I felt a new texture I was unfamiliar with. It was a big, beautiful mess of dark red fur. One paw lay over my chest, the snout of the beautiful beast rested on top of my head. The heat of his breath trickled down my face and neck.

“Grim?”

The beast didn’t move, not at first. All I heard was the low, deep purring of an animal resting upon me. It was Grim’s wolf. I’d recognize that beautiful color anywhere.

I ran my fingers through the white fur on its chest. The deep, heavy breathing quickened, and the animal groaned.

Would his wolf still be called Grim? From the voices I’d heard, I would think he would be an entirely separate entity, but I didn’t know. I knew so little about this new world save for the fact that humans weren’t the only beings.

“Come on Mr. Floofers, I need to pee.” I pushed his enormous paw away, but it was replaced by another, and part of his weight bared down on my chest.

“Mr. Floofers, you’re heavy!” I pushed him away again, wiggling against the gigantic body suffocating me.

“Mr. Floofers? What kind of name is that?”His voice rang clear in my ears.“Out of all the names you could have picked, you picked that one?”

“Uh, I didn’t know what to call you. You aren’t obviously Grim.” I pushed him again.

He huffed in annoyance and rolled away. He moved his body just enough to still be touching mine as I sat up.

“You’re right I’m not. But that doesn’t mean you can give me a name you would give a cat.”

“Well, I didn’t know your real name,” I retorted. “What is it anyway?” I stared up at the beautiful dark eyes that stared down at me.

His wet nose pushed toward my neck and took a large sniff.

“Go relieve yourself, come straight back.” It wasn’t a request, but a command, and his body showed no signs of playfulness.

I knew he wouldn’t hurt me, so I playfully scratched his head and jumped from the bed. The clicking of his claws touched the floor behind me, and I turned to watch him stretch his body, lifting his rear end in the air and his claws extending.
