I laugh. “Well, this has been a mildly enlightening experience, but I’m going to get upstairs. Nolan should be home before too long.”

Dean steps out of the way, and River leads me to the door.

“I expect a full report later,” I tell her.

“Likewise.”

I give River another hug, thanking her again, and head for the elevators. I step inside when one arrives and press the button for Nolan’s floor, settling in for the slow ride.

This slow-ass elevator is about the only thing I don’t miss about this building. The rest? I miss it so much. Especially waking up next to Nolan every morning.

At the time, living separately sounded like a good idea. We wanted to take things slow. Wanted to ease into everything.

But now? I miss him like crazy.

We still have dinner together every night—either at my place or his—but it’s getting harder to walk away from him each night.

I want more with him. But I’m scared he’s not ready yet.

The elevator finally reaches his floor, and I make my way down the hall to Nolan’s door, passing by the apartment that’s been raising a lot of brows lately.

Dean’s younger sister, Holland, moved into the building two weeks ago, and whoever she’s rooming with…well, let’s just say they arenotfriends. I don’t even live here and I’ve heard the gossiping and complaining about them always fighting.

I slip my key into the lock and push inside.

“Hey!”

“FUCK!” I scream, clutching my chest and falling back against the door.

“We can, but after dinner. I’m starving.”

“What the hell, Nolan?!” My chest heaves as I gulp in air. “You scared the shit out of me!”

He shrugs. “Told you I’d be home in a bit.”

I push off the door with a sigh. “I didn’t expect you to be homethatsoon.”

“Surprise?”

I glare at him and he laughs, crossing the apartment to me. He doesn’t stop until I’m pressed up against the door. On instinct, my hands curl around his neck, and my legs go around his waist when he slides his hands over my ass.

I giggle as he buries his face in my neck, kissing and nipping at me until he reaches my lips. He takes my mouth in a heated kiss until I’m writhing against him, dying for a release.

Then he relents, making his way back down to that spot I love.

“Well, hello to you, too,” I say.

He pulls back, grinning at me. “I missed you.”

“Yeah?”

He nods. “Just a little bit.”

I swivel my hips, feeling his very obvious erection brushing against me. “It doesn’t feel like a little bit.”

He lifts his brows. “So you want to play that game, huh?” He drives into me, and my eyes roll back in my head. “I win.”

I shake my head. “You don’t play fair.”
