Python:You know you missed me.

Me:I did, but we’re not in the clear yet.

Python:But we will be.

Python:Look, I have a meeting in like two minutes. We’ll talk tonight. Lola’s at 7?

Me:I’ll be there.

Me:Donut go getting dumb in the meantime.

Python:I am 96% positive that wasn’t proper in English. Shame, teach. ??

Python:And I won’t.

For the first time in days, I feel good, hopeful.

We’re not done.

The second thelast student trickles out of my classroom, I’m on my feet and racing off to Gladden’s office.

This isn’t over for me and Robbie. This can’t be where our story ends. I won’t let it.

As I round the corner, I see Brandon for the first time today. He’s turning into the next hall…toward the offices.

Oh no…

I race forward and, without much grace, slide my way into the front offices.

“Miss Andrews, how can we help you?” the head assistant asks.

I try my best to calm my voice, but I know it’s no use. “I’d like to speak with Principal Gladden in regard to a personal matter.”

Her brows lift—at the shakiness in my voice, I’m sure—but she remains professional. “Of course, dear. I do believe he has a guest in there now, so you’ll need to wait a moment.”

I’m too late.

“No!” I shout.

“What was that?”

“N-No. This can’t wait. It has to do with his guest.”

“Are you certain, dear? I don’t see how that could be possible if it’s a personal matter.”

“It is. Trust me. Please, let me in there.”

She frowns. “I’m afraid I can’t do that.”

“I-I…”

I am so getting fired for this…

I don’t wait another second. I push past her and barge into the room.
