Page 60 of Not That Impossible

“I didnot.”

“What else did Liam say? Give me your phone. Did he tell you we hooked up?” I was starting to hate that word. “Or…did he phrase it differently?”

Adam let me snag his phone and scroll through the rest of the conversation.

Adam

No, he’s not okay. I know it’s your fault because you’re the only thing in the world that makes him this sad.

Liam

What’s wrong with him?

Adam

I’m in his kitchen right now and he’s not drinking his protein shake. He eats every two hours. He’s like a lumberjack. He’s an eating machine. He’s just staring at it and it’s freaking me out.

Adam had attached a photo of me from half an hour ago. I looked faintly green under the bright kitchen lights. I had dark circles under my eyes. My shoulders were slumped, and I was gazing off into space.

“Thanks, Adam,” I said. “Like he didn’t already know I was pathetic, he needed a visual?”

Liam

Is this a joke?

Adam

No. I take Jasper’s happiness very seriously. Don’t fuck around with him.

It wasn’t planned. It happened, we’re both adults, and I made sure he knew what it was going in, okay?

YOU SLEPT WITH HIM OH MY GOD WHAT THE FUCK LIAM THAT WAS A FIGURE OF SPEECH!!!

There were a few more messages from Adam, but Liam had left them all on read.

“Tell me the truth, now,” Adam said seriously, taking his phone back. “Do I need to go over there and kick his arse? Because I will.”

I couldn’t help laughing. “I’d pay to see that, you know?”

Adam wouldn’t actually try to hurt Liam, but watching the pair of them try to tussle for top spot while not pissing off their mums by damaging each other would be comedy gold.

“Yeah?” Adam stood up. “No need to pay. It’s on the house. Come on. Let’s go.”

“Sit down,” I said, trailing off into giggles. “I appreciate the offer, Adam. But you can’t make him want me back.”

“Uh, I don’t think I need to? He clearly does.”

My smile twisted. “Nah,” I said. “I’m not his type.”

Adam stared at me, then said, “Pfft. You are exactly his type. Why do you think he’s such an arsehole around you?”

“Because he wants me so much, is it?”

Adam bugged his eyes out at me.

“I know I’m not his type. He told me to my face.”

“He lied,” Adam bounced back.
