Page 103 of Not That Impossible

Not quite the Jasper-takes-control revenge story I’d been attempting.

At least Liam didn’t shoot me into space, sleep with some rando, or abandon me in a desert this time.

I leapt up from the chair, bolted upstairs and ran into the bathroom. I jumped into the shower, took hold of my cock and came in about three strokes.

It had been a hell of a day.

Iwas sitting at my kitchen table, freshly showered and in my favourite worn-out old sweatpants, meditatively ploughing my way through a plate of chicken parmesan when it hit me.

I’d forgotten to tell Adam about Ray again.

Squinting through the cracked screen on my phone, I pulled up Adam’s number and dialled. I really didn’t want him to read my article about his soulmate finding another dead guy in his house without me at least mentioning it first.

“What’s up?” Adam said.

“Hi.”

“Hello. Jasper? You okay?”

“I’mfine,” I said.

“Don’t like the stress on theIthere. Is everything all right?”

“Can you talk?”

“Yeah, I just came off shift. I’m in the break room.”

“Soooo.”

“You’re worrying me.”

“Sorry. Opposite of what I was going for. Uh. Hmm. I’m not sure if you know this or yet, but Ray found another body in his house.”

Adam laughed. “Yeah, I know. Liam turfed him out of his house again and he checked into the hotel for the night, like he did last time. God, he was a mess when he showed up here. I’m going to take care of him, don’t worry. And I heard all about it from Liam.”

“Oh, good. You’re in the loop. I’m sorry, I should have told you earlier, but Ralph called and I had to get on the scene, then I had to get home and write the article, and then…other stuff came up. I forgot until now that I hadn’t called you.”

“Hey, you wrote another article! That’s great!”

I hunched a little lower in my seat. “Yeaaaah?”

“You’re sounding weird again.”

I cleared my throat. “Yeah!”

“That’s better. Is it on the website? Can I read it?”

I laughed weakly. “You can read it tomorrow. Right now, it’s at the printers.”

“Jasper! Another front page! You are killing it. I’ll buy a copy as soon as my morning shift is over. I’ll get it framed and you can have another one to hang over your desk.”

I hoped he felt that way after he’d read it. Somehow, I doubted it. “So the thing is, it’s about Ray.”

“I imagine it is. He was the one who found another body in his house, after all. How does he keep doing it? Most people go their lives without ever finding one.” Adam sounded fond.

“I know that Ray is like, your soulmate and everything, but it’s not a hundred percent flattering. Toward him.”
