A spike of adrenaline surged through me and set my heart jangling. I let out a shaky breath. To my humiliation, it had a fine edge of a whine to it.

I was...he was…he was fucking overwhelming, all right?

Adam tilted his head. His face turned a little thoughtful, a little cruel.

If he was a nice pretty boy, he’d have held me like the night in the hotel. Or he’d have said something soothing. But he liked seeing a flare of panic. Wait. What had he called it? Erotic fear.

“Oh my god,” I said, gripping the duvet beneath me with both hands. “You’re a sadist.”

“Mhm.” He gave a half-shrug and unzipped himself.

I planted my hands and feet and went to scramble backward, but he simply knee-walked after me, and reached down to cup my cheek. He bent to kiss me.

“Relax, Ray,” he said, once our lips had parted with a soft sound.

“You relax,” I told him shrilly, and grabbed his thighs.

My heart was still pounding. The hand Adam had on my jaw slid down over my throat, along my collarbone, and stopped over my chest.

Adam frowned a tiny bit, then that fond look mixed with the predatory cast on his face.

It was a lot.

He lowered down and stretched out over me, easing his body against mine with small adjustments until he was comfortable. He curled his arms up around my head. I was completely caged by him.

I squirmed my own arms free and cupped his beautiful face, gazing up into his darkened eyes. I stroked a thumb over his bottom lip.

He smiled and darted his tongue out to lick it.

Craning up, I kissed him. He made a half-surprised, half-encouraging noise. Was this the first time I had taken the initiative and been the one to close the distance between us?

I thought perhaps it was.

I pressed my shaking mouth to his. I mean, I had game. Usually. I had way more game than this. But with Adam, I was apparently a Madonna song. I smiled and snorted a small laugh at the stupid thought. Adam’s lips followed the curve of my own.

“What?” he murmured.

The frantic pounding of my heart had settled to a honey-slow beat, a pulse I felt everywhere.

“Nothing,” I said.

“Tell me, Ray.”

“You’re not the boss of me, I—”

“Please.” He licked out at my bottom lip.

I kissed him again and said, “It’s stupid. I just... I’m a sophisticated man, right? An experienced lover.”

He started shaking against me.

“And you’ve got me so crazy I’m hearingLike a Virginin my head, and—okay, why the hilarity?”

“S-s-sophisticated lover,” he giggled.

“Uh, yes?”

He giggled harder.
