I snap at her, “No, I’m going. You’re staying. This weather is dangerous. I don’t have time to argue about this.”

She snaps back. “You aren’t going by yourself. I’m here. I’m ready. Don’t argue. Just shut the hell up and get in the damn truck. Time’s a wastin, cowboy.” She shoots me one last look and turns on her booted heel, heading for the door. “You need to go, so let’s go.”

The door opens and she walks out before I can say anything.

Looking over, I see both Rowdy and Natalee looking at me and trying to hide smirks.

Rowdy shakes his head, “Looks like you just lost that fight, brother.” He looks outside as a crack of thunder shakes the house, “But, you damn sure better go. And for the love of God, y’all be careful. I need you both back here in one piece.”

Swiping my hand over my forehead, under the brim of my hat, I stomp outside, after the damn stubborn woman, who has uprooted my life.

She’s waiting in the truck as I approach. Kicking the side of the door in frustration because she is too damn stubborn, I yank it open and slide in, slamming the door behind me as another boom of thunder shakes the ground.
