Chapter Ten
Eliza
Eliza, you’re swimmingtoward Falcon under the cover of trees and water and he’s only wearing a pair of skin tight boxer briefs.
I just stripped to my underwear in front of him, while he watched my every move, and got into the water with him.
Am I really doing this?
Hell yes, I am.
Everything from the second I saw him from inside a damn horse trough yesterday has been leading up to this.
It’s utter madness and makes no sense, but at the same time, it makes all the sense in the world.
Not being right here, right now is what wouldn’t make sense.
As I get closer to him, I roll to my back and float. He’s watching me like a predator watches his prey before it pounces. His eyes are dilated and fixated on me. They trail over my face and then my body and I shiver in the water as if I can feel him.
Wait, I can feel something…
Something is touching my side.
Is it Falcon?
Turning my head, I look at him and see that he is looking at my side with a look of unease and not a look of desire anymore. His voice is calm as he says, “Eliza, don’t move… Stay perfectly still.” My eyes widen and I want to scream, but he says firmly, “No, do not move. I’m going to get it… just stay as you are, darlin’. Seems like we’re not the only ones who wanted a cool dip.”
What the hell is touching me?
Stay as I am. Screw you.
What the hell, Falcon?
Oh, God… I’m going to die out here in some river in my underwear.
I thought I was about to get sexy time and instead, I’m just going to get dead. I’m going to get eaten by some river monster in Texas.
Texas is torture…
Coyotes… River Monsters… Sexy ass cowboys that get me riled up and then lure me into the water so that wild things can kill me instead of screwing me into oblivion…
Oh, God…
I whisper, “Falcon, what is by me? Did you lure me out here to have something eat me? Oh, God. I thought I was going to get sexed to death but instead I’m going to be a meal for a river monster.”
He chuckles and I jerk in the water. “Shit, no. Stop moving, Eliza. I almost have it… Just one more second…” The water beside me splashes and then nothing is pressed against my side anymore except water. Rolling quickly, my only thought to getoutof the water as fast as I can, I scramble for the bank.
Screw you slow motion Baywatch lifeguards. No time to be sexy when I’m swimming for my damn life!
As I roughly splash onto the bank and race for the safety of the truck, I see Falcon wade quickly to the other side of the river and throw a long, dangly thing, asnake, into the bushes.
I see the bushes move as it slithers off and I resist the urge to scream. My eyes lock on him and I screech, “Was that asnake? Did you justgraba snake with your hand?”
He nods, “It was and I did,” and dives under the water. He resurfaces a moment later as if it was no big deal.
My eyes bug out of my head. “Get out of there! What if they have more? Who just grabs a damn snake? Why are we in there if they have snakes? What if it’d bit me?”
Falcon just looks at me and shrugs. “It was only a rat snake. They aren’t poisonous, though they still bite. It wouldn’t be pleasant but I still didn’t want you to startle it. It was only interested in your warmth, Eliza. It’s perfectly safe. You can come back in. I promise. I wouldn’t take you somewhere you’d be in danger…”
