I didn’t do elite.
I didn’t go to parties or dine with the best, drinking rosé, unless it was a cheap knockoff from a box.
I didn’t know how to act sophisticated.
I didn’t know how to dress.
I didn’t know how to play tennis or care to learn.
I didn’t fit into Red’s world, and I’d be smart to remember that.
“Something on your mind, Jadey?” Sherrilyn asked me, breaking into my toxic thoughts.
I shook my head. There was no way I could tell her the truth. “Just thinking about what I’ll wear tomorrow night.”
She gasped as she made fast work of another swan napkin. “Oh, my! Did I tell you I brought my gown in for last-minute alterations, and they ruined it? The fabric was all pulled when I went in to see it. I told them they destroyed it. I could never put it on my body. I’d look like an embarrassment, a laughingstock.”
Covering my mouth with my hand, I made eye contact with her. “No!” Seemed like an over-the-top reaction, but also just the one she’d wanted from me.
“Yes,” she confirmed, nodding. “It’s ridiculous. I’ll never use them again. They clearly don’t know what they’re doing.”
“Do you have a backup?”
She laughed, brushing me off. “Of course. It just won’t be the same.”
Will anything after this entire experience?
Chapter Thirty-Two
Reddington
“I sent Kieranhome, but there are some leftovers in the fridge,” I shouted, coming down the stairs. I’d been coming down here to see if Jade was home yet when I’d heard noise in the kitchen. I knew it had to be her.
As I joined her, Jade shut the fridge, holding nothing more than a cheese stick in her hand. “It’s okay,” she replied, pulling the wrapper back and taking a bite off the top. “I’m not even that hungry anyway. I’m more so tired.”
I ran a hand through my hair. “Are you sure you don’t want me to make you anything? If you don’t want leftovers, then at least let me make you something quick and easy.”
“Pasta?” She quirked a brow but continued eating her child food.
I didn’t even know why those were in the fridge. Kieran did all the shopping, and unless he was having his kid over, I wasn’t sure why they were there. Maybe he snacked on them.
“No, thanks, that’ll give me indigestion at this late hour,” Jade said, pointing to the clock on the stove.
It was late, I’d give her that. “Fine, well, how was it with Sherrilyn today?”
Jade’s head popped up so fast I feared it might disconnect from her body. “Wait, what?” She blinked. “You want to know how my day went?”
Was I talking to myself? I looked around, trying to make a show of it, like I didn’t know who she was talking to, because Iwas pretty sure we both knew I asked how her day went. “That’s what I said.”
She walked around the counter, stepped on the trash can to open it, and tossed the wrapper inside. Then she did something that had me wondering if she was hearing different words than what was actually coming out of my mouth. She slid her hands behind my neck and pulled me down to her, slamming her lips on mine and immediately moving to plunge her tongue in my mouth.
I caught up quickly, opening my mouth to tussle with her tongue. I couldn’t seem to get enough of my tongue inside of her mouth, and she clearly felt the same way.
The pleasure in my body felt reminiscent of electricity, the heat shooting straight to my cock. With each slide of her tongue along mine, my pulse sped up. My whole body felt like fire ants were crawling all over it. Okay, that wasn’t the best way to describe it. I felt alive and heated everywhere, like even a cold shower wouldn’t do anything to put out the fire burning inside me and threatening to burn me from the inside out.
I lifted her up and onto the marble countertop, our lips never leaving each other. I didn’t think we could figure out a way to even if we tried.
The moaning sounds she was making deep in her throat.
