I feel his warm breath against my neck, “You want this cock, don’t you, Ellie?”
His deep chuckling is always my undoing.
I spin to face him, still dancing to the beat. “Fuck you, Jaydon.”
Even though I say it, my entire body heats at his closeness. His lips, just inches from mine. He smells so fucking delicious, his cologne mixing with the bourbon he’s drinking. The heat from his hand pressed into my bare lower back, pulling me in. It's all too much. I have to close my eyes for a moment to shake off the feelings.
He laughs, dipping his lips close to my ear. “You keep saying that. You don’t have to pretend… if you want it, it’s yours. All you have to do is admit you still want me.”
Now it’s my turn to laugh.
He’s fucking with me, and I know it. “If you think I want you, you’re delusional. I never wanted you, Jaydon. You were just convenient that night.”
“Oh, is that what you are telling yourself? If it makes you feel better, we can go with that.”
“I’m not telling myself anything. It’s the truth.” I'm thankful for the dim lighting to cover the look on my face when I flat-out lie.
“Oh, yeah? Well, we’ll see about that soon, sweetheart. Just wait until the liquor kicks in. You won’t be able to hide your true feelings for me then... You never can.”
I’ve had enough of his ridiculous behavior. I put my hands on his chest, push him away, and spin back around towards Haleigh. But I’m now regretting that because she has a stupid grin on her face.
“What was that about?” She teases—a glimmer of hope in her eyes.
“Nothing.” I lie.
“Didn’t look like nothing, Ells.” She gives me a knowing look as a huge grin spreads across her face.
“It was just your brother being a prick, like usual,” I say, trying to throw her off.
Her smile drops. “Oh, I’m sorry, Ellie.”
“Nothing to be sorry about. I’m used to it by now. Enough about that… Let's dance!”
Chapter 2
Ellie
The night is winding down. The music still plays softly in the distance, and the bride and groom have retreated into their house for the evening. Haleigh said I could stay here, but there’s no way in hell I’m crashing here on their wedding night. She’s crazy for even offering.
I stand just outside the entrance of the tent, feeling the chill of the night air dance across my bare skin. The staff moves swiftly, cleaning up as the final guests still trickle out.
I probably drank a little too much tonight. I know my limit, but I needed to calm myself, Seeing Jaydon fucks with my head, and I wasn’t prepared for it. I suddenly feel hazy and feel the alcohol swirling through my veins. Dizziness creeps over me; I take a deep, calming breath, trying to steady myself.
All of the drinks I had this evening are finally catching up with me.
“Didn’t think you’d still be here.”
The deep rumble of his voice from behind startles me. I stiffen, forcing myself still as I try to stop from swaying, so he doesn’t notice and take the chance to prey on my weakness. Because I know he would never miss an opportunity to mess with me.
“Well, I am, so please leave me alone.” I cross my arms but don't miss the way his eyes briefly dip down to my breasts, spilling over the top of my dress. “Breanne was supposed to pick me up an hour ago, but shockingly she won’t pick up her damn phone when I call.” Sarcasm is laced in my words when I say the last part.
“Where’s that so-called boyfriend of yours? Shouldn’t he have been here with you tonight? Or did y’all already break up?”
I glare at him, “No, Jay, we didn’t fucking break up. He’s out of town on business. Otherwise, he would have been here.”
He snorts a laugh. “Yep, away on business… I feel like we've heard that one before.”
I know what he’s talking about. Haleigh’s ex-fiancé would always use that as an excuse until she found out he was cheating on her. A wave of dizziness takes over, and I feel the ground shifting beneath me.
