Bria smirked at him. “What about the kids?”

“My mama got them. We won’t be gone long. I just want some alone time with you.”

Bria nodded, knowing Lo didn’t have to ask for her to accompany him anywhere. She would go to the depths of the earth if it meant he was next to her. Lo got up and grabbed herhand. They snuck away from the kids who were now dancing with Ada and walked toward the front of the house. Getting inside his truck, they drove off Devyn’s estate and headed toward the beach.

This was their getaway from their reality. An actual escape that they both loved so much. They’d stay for hours, hearing the ocean waves and enjoying each other’s company. It was such an intimate act that Bria looked forward to.

Lo parked in the lot and got out to retrieve their blanket. Grabbing Bria’s hand, he led them toward their favorite spot. Sitting down, she sat between his legs with her back against his chest. The sloshing sounds of the waves caressed Bria’s ears as she looked at the scattered starlight in the sky.

“I talked to Maddy earlier,” she revealed. “She’s saddened by the distance in your relationship. I feel bad but I also understand your position. I think she just misses you.”

Bria awaited Lo’s response wondering how he would accept what she’d revealed. She rarely brought up the topic of Maddy because Lo never wanted to elaborate on it. There was only one time when he got candid about the state of their relationship. Other than that, he typically didn’t expound on it.

“Look, I don't fuck with no rats. I don't give a fuck who it is. If I find out that they work with the feds, I can’t be in contact. She was turning me against my people because of her jealousy. It’s crazy ‘cause back then, I thought my people were trippin’ but after learning what she did, I don't see her the same. She actually should’ve been murked for that snake shit.”

“So, you really can’t bypass what she did?” she asked, knowing the answer already. “Like there’s nothing in you that wants to continue a relationship with her?”

“Hell nah,” he griped. “She helped the feds try to build up a case on my pops. When her house got shot up and she was getting harassed at her job, I hated my parents for doing thatshit. But I had no clue it was because she was trying to get my pops locked up. He could’ve been serving decades and all for what? Because she was jealous that my mama had moved on in life. She had no reason to try and lock him up.”

Bria turned to face him. “That’s the thing I don't understand. Don't the Mob got pull? Couldn’t they have called in some favors and shut her up?”

“Yeah, but back then, she had involved everybody, including police officers and shit. Everybody would’ve gotten exposed. And if something happened to her, they would’ve been looking at Dax. When he got shot, that’s when shit changed. Maddy’s testimony wouldn’t have been enough to convict him, and they didn’t have more evidence. So, she did all that for nothing. I can’t fuck with her like that.”

Maddy had ultimately switched places with Ada. It was her who was on the outside of the house, looking in at the family she tried to tear apart. Bria’s heart went out to her because the pain she was experiencing was evident, but her actions had come back ten-fold.

“What’s crazy is that she be lying about everything when I seen the paperwork. That shit makes me wanna do something to her ass.” He snorted as his eyes turned dark. “My pops told me not to. He’s on this karma shit but I wanna play karma. She robbed me of a lot of time with my people. And I’m not putting all the blame on her ‘cause my people played they part but Maddy took shit too far.”

“I understand. I’m always on your side.” She grinned.

He glanced down at the sand. “My focus ain't her no more. I’m trying to catch up on lost time with my people. It’s crazy how we picked up where we left off. I’ve been enjoying spending time with them and not having nightmares and shit. I wish I would’ve made up with them years ago.”

“I see how happy you guys are. It really makes me smile knowing you guys aren’t at odds anymore.”

Lo gazed at her with eyes filled with adoration. “You wanna know who really makes me smile?”

“Who?” she flirted.

Lo blessed her with his panty-wetting smile. “This bad-ass girl who can dance her ass off and got good pussy with flawless-ass skin. She’s the best mother and a dope wife.”

She feigned surprise. “Is it moi?”

He chuckled and kissed her lips. “You know you got my heart and it’s all yours. You don't share that shit with nobody.”

“Mhmm,” she moaned, kissing him again. “You promise?”

“I swear. You and my kids are my world. You never have to worry about me not loving you.”

The end.
