He collapses onto me and buries his face in my neck, and for a minute, all we do is breathe.

Then he lifts his head and presses a soft, slow kiss to my lips as though he hasn’t just ruined me.

“I fucking love you, Mrs. Bright,” he whispers against my mouth.

I smile lazily, savoring the taste of candy and him.

“I love you, too.”

He finds the discarded candy beside me on the bed and pops it into his mouth with a smirk. Then without a word, he slides off the bed and disappears into the bathroom.

I close my eyes, my body wrecked as every nerve ending continues to tingle.

Cade comes back with a damp cloth and kneels between my legs. He doesn’t say a thing. He just starts to clean me.

I sigh and melt into it, too blissed out to move. To care. To speak.

Beep. Beep.

“Oh, please don’t tell me that’s another toy. I can’t take it. I can’t.”

He doesn’t flinch, but his smirk grows.“No. It’s my phone. It’s in my pants pocket somewhere.”

Beep. Beep.

“Aren’t you going to check it?”

Instead of answering, Cade just looks at me with this lazy, sex-wrecked grin that makes my toes curl. “Nah. I kind of enjoy cleaning you more.”

I roll my eyes. “But what if it’s Madison and Dash and it’s an emergency about Stanley?”

He groans. “Fine, but only because you said Stanley.”

He kisses me first and then pulls away to fish his phone out of his pants before dropping onto the bed next to me.

The moment he reads the message, everything in him shifts. His shoulders tense, and that lazy post-orgasmic haze vanishes.

I catch a flash of the screen before he locks it and tosses the phone onto the bedside table.

The Kicker: We have a problem.

My stomach knots.

“Who was it?”

“No one important.” His voice is calm. Too calm. “Just something I’ll deal with tomorrow.”

Before I can push, the light clicks off. His arm hooks around my waist, dragging me into the cage of his body. I rest my cheek against his chest, lulled by his heartbeat even as unease scratches down my spine.

He’ll tell me tomorrow.

He better.

Because if he doesn’t…

I’ll find out myself.
