It was unfair how cute the little fucker was. Even though it was his fault we were in this mess, I couldn’t stop touching him. I couldn’t have a cat near me without petting it. It was like a cosmic rule.

I leaned into Caden and desire rushed through me. That was another cosmic rule I’d discovered since first taking him to bed. I always wanted more. If he was touching me, even when I was upset, the undercurrent was there.

We both knew if he’d pushed in the car I’d have let him fuck me and happily drowned in the sensation. He didn’t, though. He was never shy about letting me know he was down to fuck, but if I didn’t light up the beacons he wasn’t coming to my aid.

I looped a finger in the collar of his shirt and pulled him in for a kiss. Seth dramatically gagged and I broke away with a laugh.

Caden scooped his brother up by his scruff. “Go guard outside.”

Seth eyed the windows warily and puffed up his fur. It’s creepy out there.

“And it’s about to get freaky in here, so scoot.”

Seth huffed and marched his fluffy butt out onto the wraparound porch, hopping onto the now-covered hot tub, facing away from us.

Caden turned back to me and my blood turned to liquid fire from the look in his eyes. I lay back and let him climb over me on the couch, adoring being sandwiched between him and the leather. He dropped his mouth to my throat and sucked at the pulse point. I wanted him to bite me. He never agreed, insisting that I wouldn’t survive if he let himself claim me.

The words intoxicated me.

Claim.

Sometimes the fantasy of it got the better of me and I would literally beg him to tear me apart. Thankfully he had more control than I did. I wanted it again now, though. More than anything I wanted him to brand me, wanted to feel safe with his mark on me. I knew he would protect me, but we didn’t know what was after us. If we might die anyways, I wanted to risk letting him have all of me.

I tipped my head and offered my throat. “Take it.”

The groan he let out had goosebumps flickering to life on my skin and a heavy, pulsing beat forming between my thighs.

“I can’t.” The whisper was firm, agonized, and out loud rather than fed into my thoughts by his telepathy.

I didn’t mean to start crying. Caden sank against me, his hand cupping my face.

“I’m sorry. Logan, I want to. It’s just...”

“It’s not that.” I hiccuped. “I’m overwhelmed and tired and it’s not you at all.”

“We should sleep.”

“No.” I locked my arms around him and breathed him in. “Please. I need you. I want time where I don’t think about anything else except for you.”

He planted a soft kiss on my lips. “If you’re sure.”

I nodded frantically and grabbed his hips, pressing him closer.

They were fucking again.

I sighed and flopped down on the hot tub cover. This time at least it wasn’t for Caden to mark his territory and make me uncomfortable. If Logan needed that anchor, I wasn’t going to begrudge her. Even if it did put me in proximity to these freaky-ass woods.

I knew some of the stories. Not many, but even if you lived under a rock you’d heard of Mothman and Bigfoot and other things better left unnamed. Even shifters had no idea if what was out there was us or something…else. I wouldn’t be keen to wander into those endless trees in the middle of the night.

I switched over to my big-cat form to take advantage of the senses and the comfort of being big enough to deter most predators. I felt every whisper of the wind in my fur and whiskers. It was too quiet. The rustles of tiny creatures were magnified by their rarity and made my ears twitch. Something bigger was out there.

It was hard to concentrate over the sounds Logan was making, but I did my best to focus on the woods.

I chanced a look back into the cabin. That was a fucking mistake. Caden had her face first against the wall, his dick in her and his hand between her thighs. Her dark eyes locked on me when I turned before they scrunched shut as she came with a shuddering, breathless groan.

Fuck.

I whipped my gaze back to the woods.
