I reached over and handed her a glass of wine. “Here, drink this.”
She brought the glass to her lips and took a huge sip. “I’m so sorry. First, I go all nuclear on your ex-girlfriend, and then I’m acting like a dumb blonde around you as usual. You have this weird effect on me, and it drives me crazy.”
My lips curled into a smile. I liked knowing that little piece of information. “You have nothing to be sorry about. Tonight, would have been a lot worse if you weren’t around. And like I said earlier, I like having you here.”
She slowly sipped from her glass and averted her gaze.
“Amelia, look at me.” I lifted her chin. “You made what should have been a lousy night for me totally enjoyable. I should be the one thanking you.”
Which I planned on doing later, I thought to myself.
She swallowed her wine, looking unsure of herself. “How did you feel when Sienna confessed her feelings for you?”
Talk about officially killing the mood. “Surprised, I guess. I wasn’t expecting her to unload all that with her husband in the next room.” Seeing Sienna tonight brought up a lot of different emotions, but in the end all I felt was pissed off. “She needs to get it through her head that I don’t want anything to do with her. I guess you could say that I’m the kind of guy where once you cross the line there is no going back. I don’t forgive and forget easily.”
Her wineglass froze halfway to her lips. Something dark passed across her features. “That’s understandable.” Her words said one thing, but her eyes said another.
Thanks to my line of work and years of training, I was very good at reading people. And my gut told me that Amelia was hiding something from me. Now I needed to figure out what I was going to do about it.
