Lincoln’s eyes are dark with rage, but just as he opens his mouth to say something more, a commotion behind him stops him short. One second, Lincoln is standing in front of me, grinning, and the next, he crumples to my feet with blood dripping from his side where a blade sticks out of him.

For a second, I think it’s Venom. Or stupidly, I think somehow Jesse sensed Lincoln was here and came to find me. But when I look back up, I’m met with a different gaze. This biker is also wearing a cut, but the patch has a skull with devil horns.

A logo I’m familiar with because I saw it at the store.

If I thought Lincoln cornering me was bad, then this just got a hundred times worse.

“Well, hello there, beautiful.” He grabs my chin, smearing blood on me. “You’re prettier than they said. You’re going to make us a pretty penny when you spread your legs.”

Legacy

Havoc and I pullup to my house, and it’s quiet when we walk inside.

I’m used to Bea being here when I randomly drop in throughout the day, so it’s an adjustment having her in school. Glancing at my phone, I see Reagan is probably still driving back from school drop-off as well, leaving the house to Margaret, who is sitting at the kitchen table drinking coffee.

“Well, if it isn’t my favorite biker.” She smiles at Havoc.

“I thought I was your favorite?” I tease, even though I know she’s always had a soft spot for him.

Margaret has said on more than one occasion that if she were forty years younger, he’d be just her type. Something about the hair and tattoos, apparently.

“You know I love you, Jesse.” Margaret winks.

“But she loves me more. Win a war, and maybe you’ll be able to properly steal a lady’s heart.” Havoc grins, walking past me to give her a hug. “How you feeling, Margaret?”

“Keep hugging me like that, and I’ll tell you.” She squeezes his bicep.

Havoc chuckles, hugging her tighter before pulling back. “Got any more of that coffee?”

“On the counter. Already poured you both a to-go cup when Legacy texted me that you’d be dropping by.”

“Always taking care of us.” I walk over to give her a hug while Havoc grabs his coffee.

“Well, someone has to.”

“Ain’t that the truth.” Havoc drops into the chair across from her at the table and takes a sip. “Although, our boy here has finally locked down an old lady, so maybe you’re off the hook from here on out.”

“Falling for my lovely niece is the smartest thing Jesse’s ever done.”

Havoc holds up his coffee. “Cheers to that.”

They clink coffee cups as she turns her attention to him. “What about you, Levi? When’s a nice lady gonna steal your heart?”

“Who says one already hasn’t.” He winks, trying to sound like he’s talking about Margaret, but there’s something else beneath it.

Something I thought I sensed years ago when we were still in high school. Something that drove him to the military instead of the club for a while.

But if there is anyone, he’s never talked about her.

“I appreciate the flattery.” Margaret drops her chin, eyeing him. “But you deserve someone a lot more exciting than an old woman like me.”

“I like to think of you asexperienced.” He grins.

Margaret’s gaze shoots to me. “This is why he’s my favorite.”

“Yeah, well, keep your favorite busy for me while I go change into something already covered in oil.” I chuckle, heading up the staircase.
