Page 75 of Forever and Ever

Noah narrows his eyes, but Rome is already walking down the stairs ignoring him.

“I’m going to wait up here,” I tell Noah when he looks back at me. “I’ve got to finish up some of the lyrics for one of my songs I’m recording tonight.”

“Sounds good, babe,” he says, leaning in for a quick kiss.

Everything about that—his words, the way it came so naturally—sends my belly spinning.

“Good luck.” I wave to him as he heads down the stairs.

Sebastian and Eloise’s elevated voices are already making their way up the staircase, telling me Noah’s in for a shit session. But he’s relaxed as he descends, and it puts me at ease to see him like this.

I head outside to Adrian’s back deck to get some air. Writing over the screaming will only take longer, so I drop down onto a lawn chair and appreciate the sounds of the forest.

Pulling out my notebook, I turn to the page that has the song I plan on recording tonight. The more I look at the lyrics, the more of a mess they seem to become. Something about them isn’t working, and I can’t quite figure it out.

Love is the limit

Love is the limit

I tap my pencil against my notebook and pull out my phone with my other hand, scrolling until I reach the email Adrian sent me with the beat attached to it. I hit play and let it roll in a loop. The same sounds over and over, trying to hear the words and make them sound right.

Stay please

Hold me here for now

Take me

SteadyUneasy as we spin around

In this dance

We will findOnce upon a time was a merry-go-round

Wait here

While roses grow up from the ground

a merry-go-round

If love is the limit

How far are you willing to go

If love is the limit

How hard areyouwe willing to hold

If love is the limit

I was meant to be yours

So, hold on tight

Hold on now

Hold on…

to me
