“Aren’t you going to wear a shirt?” Cassie asks, eyeing me as I make my way over to the bed.
I toss myself on it. “Nope, this is how I sleep. You’re lucky I’m wearing sweats because normally, I wouldn’t be.” I wink at her.
Cassie lets out an annoyed sigh.
“What?” I grin. “Afraid you won’t be able to resist me,friend?”
“No.” She tugs the comforter up higher, but it doesn’t stop the visual of her naked legs twisting beneath the sheets from playing on a loop in my head. “Of course not.”
I don’t believe her, and I can’t help the feeling that arises from it.
Like the last time Cassie and I watched a movie, I hit play on whatever crappy rom-com pops up first in the app because I have no intention of actually watching it. My eyes keep making their way over to Cassie, who is focused on the TV, looking like she’s on the brink of drifting off.
“You’re staring at me again,” she says, her eyes flicking my way.
“Yep.” I roll onto my side to face her. Us being friends doesn’t stop me from appreciating the fact that she’s drop dead gorgeous.
Cassie moves onto her side to face me, tucking her arm underneath her head.
“I’m never going to be able to date again,” Cassie says with a sigh.
Defeat swells in her tone. The idea of Cassie dating makes me want to break something, but I keep it to myself.
“People will move on eventually. They always do.”
“You say that like you know from experience.”
I shrug a shoulder. “It’s the press. Constantly chasing the scent of blood. Wait five minutes, and they’ll find a new victim.”
“I hope so,” Cassie says. “I mean, not that I want this kind of attention for anyone else. But I don’t want it on me. You know?”
“Yeah.” I nod.
“I wish I was you,” she says to me. “I mean, I’m sure you had no problem getting dates before, beingyouand all. But now they know…” she trails off.
“Know what?”
Cassie’s cheeks flush red, and she shakes her head like she regrets saying it.
“Come on.” I tug the sheet a little when she tries to cover her face. “You can’t leave me hanging. What do they know?”
“That…. well… you have a big dick, okay? Happy now?” Her face is bright red, and it’s adorable.
“Very.” I grin, and it only deepens the shade on her cheeks.
“Change the subject, please.” She tries to bury her face into the comforter, but I pull it down and hold it so she can’t hide from me.
“You started it, but fine. Changing the subject.” I scoot closer, and I’m glad she doesn’t say anything. “Have you talked to your parents yet?”
The brightness in her eyes dims. “Only through text.”
“Why?”
She chews the inside of her lip, and I feel her nervous energy kick up again. “Because I’m not ready to face their disappointment. Myth was the one always getting into trouble. Not me. I can only imagine how pissed they are.”
“You’re close with them, yeah?”
Cassie nods.
