“Sorry I don’t feel like spending my life dying of boredom like you bitches,” Merry rolls her eyes and takes a drink of her beer. “So, Cassie, how are things going at casa de Sebastian?”
I shrug. “Fine.”
“Girl.” Stacy nudges my shoulder. “Lie to us all you want, but your cheeks give you away.”
Merry tips down her sunglasses and winks at me. “They really do.”
“I don’t kiss and tell,” I say, reaching for one of the unopened beers on the table and twisting off the lid. Anything to keep my mouth busy, so I don’t say anything I’ll regret.
“Boring.” Merry frowns, and Quinn laughs.
They drop it and go back to a conversation they were having about some guy Quinn is seeing, and I’m glad they do. I’m not sure how to process whatever is going on between Sebastian and me right now, and talking about it isn’t going to be any better. As much as we both have been vocal about how this is going to end the second I go back to the real world, it’s getting harder and harder to accept that.
“He got your name tattooed where?” Rumi asks, popping up behind Merry and joining the conversation.
Quinn leans back and points to the side of her ribs.
“His heart? Idiot.” Merry shakes her head.
“Well, not exactly his heart,” Quinn argues.
Merry lifts a pierced eyebrow. “Close enough.”
Quinn looks to Stacy, who’s face pinches. “I’m with Merry on this one, girl. Guy is whipped.”
“Fuck.” Quinn buries her face in her hands. “How does this always happen to me?”
“Guys getting whipped?” I ask.
“Worse,” Quinn says, looking up at me. “Falling in love.”
“It’s that pink hair,” Merry decides. “I mean, look at our girl Cassie. Taming Sebastian, of all people.”
“Taming?” I say. “Not possible.”
“Mm-hmm,” Stacy says, taking a long drink of her beer.
Quinn ignores all of that and sighs. “Whatever it is, it’s annoying. I don’t want love. I just want a good fuck.”
“Don’t we all.” Merry lifts her beer up, and Stacy clinks hers against it.
Megan’s cell phone starts ringing on the table between us, and my eyes catch the screen before she tucks it away.
Zane.
The familiar name makes my stomach tumble.
I’m not sure why though. Just because Sebastian fired him for what he said outside the bar that night, doesn’t mean he would have cut ties with all of his friends on the crew. I just didn’t realize he was close with Megan.
Megan puts her phone away and glares at me like it’s my fault I looked when it’s sitting right in front of me. It’s impossible to try with her, so I’ve given up.
“I’m going to go grab some food,” I say, standing.
Merry waves. “Food, sure. Have fun blowing your man in a bathroom.”
I roll my eyes and hope it masks whatever feelings her words stirred up.
My man.
