“Just me?”
He nodded. “I don’t want anyone else.”
“Me, either.”
“What do you think about quitting your job and moving to Morgan Creek with me?”
She blinked at him. “Are you serious?”
“Yeah.”
“Funny you should say that. I was thinking about that very thing not long ago.”
“Is that right?”
She nodded, then frowned at him. “Were you reading my mind?”
“No.”
“Where would we live?”
“I think Blair House is empty.”
“Blair House! Where the vampires used to live?” she exclaimed, and then remembered that Ethan had remodeled the place from top to bottom and modernized everything before he married Sofia. “My sister used to live there.”
“You can change anything you don’t like,” Kincaid remarked. “And it has a secure lair in the basement.”
“You want us to live together?”
“I’m not suggesting we share a bedroom,” he said with a sly grin. “Unless you want to. And if you’re not happy in Blair House, I’ll build you a place of your own.”
Rosa bit down on her lower lip, surprised at how attractive his offer sounded. Sofia, Ethan and their adopted daughter, Jenny, lived in Morgan Creek. Micah and Holly had a place there, too, although they spent a good part of their time in Arizona these days. And, of course, Saintcrow and Kadie lived there.
Thinking about Rhinehart and the necromancer, it occurred to her that there was probably no safer place to be than in Morgan Creek, surrounded by vampires who cared about her.
“What about Saintcrow?” she asked. “He might not like the idea.”
“Leave that to me.” Jake’s gaze searched hers. “What do you say?”
“I’ll think about it for a day or two.”
But in her heart of hearts, she knew the answer would be yes.
Chapter Twenty-Seven
Luca frowned when he opened the door and found Rhinehart standing on the porch. “I don’t recall summoning you. Have you good news?”
“I believe so.”
Luca took a step back. “Enter.”
Paul took a deep breath as he crossed the threshold into the witch’s house.
“Speak.”
“I’ve managed to make friends with the vampire, Kincaid. I think he trusts me.”
“You came here to tell me that?”
