“Where were you just now?”

“I don’t know. I blink out of focus when you two are getting all flirty. It’s like you see nothing but him when he’s touching you. I can barely get your attention.”

“We weren’t flirting. And you’re not real, so it’s more like my brain can’t be angryandcreate you all at once.”

“Of course I’m real.”She sighs. “Bummer that I blink out though. I was hoping to see how he does in bed. He seems like a very generous lover?—”

“I’m going to shower now.” I turn abruptly.

Sloane makes a ‘go ahead’ motion and starts fiddling with the lotions and face creams on the bathroom sink.

I scowl at her. “Aren’t you going to leave?”

She smirks. “I thought I was a figment of your imagination?”

“I don’t care what you are. You’re not watching me shower.”

“I bet you’d let Zane watch you shower.”

My brain trips back to a memory of Zane holding my wet, naked body that day in the bathroom. His hands had felt so big and manly as they held me up.

Heat sends a dangerous spark of electricity through my blood.

Sloane freezes. “Oh my go—HAS he seen you in the shower?”

“I’ll tell you if you tell me what happened today in prison.”

Her smile freezes and she whirls around.“Didn’t you say you wanted privacy?”

“We really will have to talk about what happened today.”

“No we don’t!” She yells before walking out the door.

A yawn cracks my jaw and I blink the sleep from my eyes. Hopefully, the shower will wake me up.

I put the water on the hottest setting and wash the day’s grime off.

After my shower, I dress for the night. A part of me wants to spite Zane and ignore the underwear he bought but I don’t have any other clean options, so I slip them on.

The creamy blue slip that matches the lingerie looks beautiful against my skin and is soft to the touch. I take my hair out of the tight bun I’ve been wearing all day and loop it into a soft ponytail.

My curls are frizzy but I won’t have my definition until I can find some curl cream and gel.

There.

I’m ready.

I peel the door open and look both ways in case Viola, Cadence, Dutch and Finn are up. Seeing the coast is clear, I hurry across to Zane’s bedroom and shut the door.

It’s dimly lit and empty. Where did he put the white board?

I yawn and then shrug.

The bed looks soft and inviting.

I shake my head, turning away. If I lie down now, I’ll fall asleep and then I’ll have to spend another day anticipating a night with Zane.

“Better to get it done now,” I murmur, smacking my face.
