He clamped his mouth shut, turning slightly away.

“It is Daz,” the Healer said, giving the Plutonian a look wrought with secrets. “Now you know his name and I can assure you that hisshotarois compatible with Tiegan’s. However, if we miss our opportunity to make the exchange, his body may reject the transfer. We do not have time to discuss this.”

“Very well.” Tiegan huffed.

Symphony’s head whipped toward him. “Don’t you think you’re agreeing too quickly?”

“I do not intend on staring up at this ceiling for another sun cycle simply because of stubbornness. My questionswillbe answered.” His voice echoed with authority despite the fact that he was currently weak and floating in the sacred damas. “For now, I must take the hand offered to me.”

Symphony gritted her teeth. “Fine.”

“Daz,” the Healer gestured, “you may join us.”

Daz dipped his chin and sauntered forward.

Symphony watched it all in silence. The Healer’s warning that she would be escorted out again if she made a fuss rang in her ears. She did not want to disturb them, but she also wouldn’t sit by and watch Tiegan get hurt. Seeing him lose his strength inside the orange dome had traumatized her for life.

“Stand there,” the Healer instructed.

Daz descended deeper into the sacred lake until the crystal blue water swallowed his broad shoulders. His dark hair swirled in the depths, floating like a leaf. Purple eyes fixed on Tiegan with a tenderness that took her by surprise.

Who is this guy?

He had the same markings as Tiegan. Hisshotarowas a match for Tiegan’s too. They were clearly related, so why didn’t he want to admit it? Why string them along with a mystery that would only torture everyone involved.

“How dare you!”

A commotion erupted from outside the cavern.

Tiegan stiffened. “What was that?”

Daz lifted apathetic eyes. “Nothing you need to worry about.”

“Daz.” The Healer’s voice was a low warning.

“Carry on,” Daz said as if they were about to do a routine dental extraction.

“I cannot focus with such clamoring.”

“You.” Daz pointed at her.

She scowled right back at him. “Do you need something?”

“Tell my warriors that they need to quiet down.”

“What are they doing?” Tiegan asked.

The Healer frowned at Daz. “I would like to know this as well.”

“It is nothing that you two should be anxious about,” he responded.

Her curiosity piqued. Whatever was going on, Daz didn’t want the Healer or Tiegan knowing about it. Which meant that she, automatically, wanted to find out what it was.

What if Tiegan needs you? You’d really go investigate right now?

She shook her head. “I can’t leave him.”

“You will be of no use to Tiegan here,” Daz said without blinking. “As you can see, I cannot go.”
